    Falcons 31 - Bills - 3

The Falcons ran all over the Bills last Sunday in what was a meaningless game for both football teams. Matt Ryan looked like his early season form and Roddy White showed his WR1 elite status by putting up a huge line. The Atlanta defense dominated the third-string QB Brohm and also shut down the ground game by forcing fumbles and returning them for scores. Next week is another easy showdown- this time against the Buccaneers.

    This Week:
    ---------------------------
    Atlanta @ Tampa Bay

Week 17 is usually when fantasy football seasons are already wrapped up and closing statements are made. But, for those leagues unfortunate enough to have a week 17 finale, here's my civic duty to try to win you that money/.jpeg trophy and bragging rights. The Buccaneers defense has long been gone this year and that promises for big games from Ryan and White with Gonzalez questionable. Turner is probably out for the year with nothing to play for and his replacement options have been less than satisfactory. That said, the air attack should be the focus and with the Buccs only real threat in the secondary being corner Ronde Barber, expect big numbers.

    Rumors:
    ---------------------------

    Players to look out for:

WR Michael Jenkins- big air attack promised

    FB Jason Snelling

    Injuries:
    ---------------------------
    Michael Turner- most likely done.

    Tony Gonzalez- questionable.

    Position Analysis:
    ---------------------------
QUARTERBACKS: Matt Ryan will have a big game. Short and simple. Expect much of the same rapport with his WRs and sharpness as his last game. Even if Gonzalez is out, he'll put up numbers.

    Projection: Ryan: 300 yards, 3 TD(s), 0 INT

RUNNING BACKS: Michael Turner is most likely out. Jason Snelling is quite a non-factor but might squeeze in enough all-purpose yards for a fill-in play. He might even be featured a little in the passing game. Go with better options, even those with risk and upside. Jerious Norwood should not be played.

    Projection: Turner- N/A, Snelling - 15 carries, 50 yards 0 TD,4 catches, 35 yards Norwood - 5 carries, 20 yards, 2 catches, 15 yards, 0 TD

WIDE RECEIVERS: Roddy White should be the main target in this game and might even come close to the dominating numbers in week 16. If Tony G is out, White is the feature of the offense and Ryan already has a good relationship with his star wide out. Nice work on getting another 1,000-yard season.

    Projection: 9 catches, 140 yards, 2 TD, Jenkins: 5 catches 80 yards, 1 TD

TIGHT ENDS: Tony Gonzalez Questionable. May not play with nothing to play for. Projection: ?

PLACE KICKER: Matt Bryant is not start able.

    Projection: 3 PAT, 1 FG(s)

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS: Another easy game with Josh Freeman up for the beating. The Falcons should finish the year strong at 9-7 and make the Buccaneers looks like a repeat performance of the Bills.

    Carolina Panthers

Panthers - 41, Giants - 9: Too bad the Panthers decided to wait until Week 14 to start kicking some tail.

    This Week:
    ---------------------------
The Panthers welcome division foe New Orleans to Carolina to close out the season.

    Rumors:
    ---------------------------
You gotta think that if the Panthers win on Sunday and finish the season 8-8, John Fox will save his job for another year. But that's only if Bill Cowher doesn't campaign for the job in the offseason.

    Injuries:
    ---------------------------
DeAngelo Williams is extremely doubtful to play on Sunday which stinks for all of his fantasy owners that have ridden him to the playoffs this year.

    Position Analysis:
    ---------------------------
QUARTERBACKS: Matt Moore is one more good game away from possibly taking over the starting job next year from Jake Delhomme. At worst, he'll cause a legit competition in training camp. I still wouldn't be starting him this week if I had any other choice, but he could be a good alternative if you've got Peyton Manning or Philip Rivers.

    PROJECTION: Moore - 250 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 int.

RUNNING BACKS: DeAngelo Williams is very very doubtful this week and probably won't play. Jonathan Stewart might be one of the top plays at any position

Projections: Jonathan Stewart – 180 total yards, 2 touchdowns; Mike Bell - 40 yards, 1 touchdown.

WIDE RECEIVERS: Steve Smith is out which makes Muhsin Muhammad your only safe bet.

Projection: Muhsin Muhammad – 7 receptions, 85 yards, 1 touchdown.

TIGHT ENDS: Look somewhere else for fantasy production at TE.

PLACE KICKER: John Kasey is no longer reliable and is a marginal, low-end kicker at best. Don't play him.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS: Unless you hear that the Saints are sitting all their regulars, this could be a risky play for you, but the Panthers have played outstanding defense for the past month.

    New Orleans Saints

The run comes to an end and the Saints look mortal against a surging Dallas team. Bad time for this to happen in the playoffs.

    This Week:
    ---------------------------
TB at home. The Saints probably do not have much motivation but I expect them to play this one out to keep things flowing. Should be a good offensive game and TB is in flux so the defense is playable.

    Rumors:
    ---------------------------

    Injuries:
    ---------------------------
All players are back though you will want to weigh how much they will be played with the usual dilution that comes with so many great options on offense. Moore returned from injury and saw some targets and he has another injury - he is probably out of the mix at this point anyway.

    Position Analysis:
    ---------------------------
QUARTERBACKS: Brees will produce this week. 300 yds / 2 TD

RUNNING BACKS: This situation is a mess - Thomas is the yards guy but Bell is getting touches. Bush gets touches and may score, but not sure how many for any of these guys (Bush may be out this week so watch out). Treat Thomas like a 2nd rb and Bell as 3rd/flex players. Bush is likely to get some touches but he may be rested for the playoffs at this point.
    Thomas 90 yds/ 1TD

    Bell 50 yds/ 0TD
    Reggie Bush 35 yds (overall)

WIDE RECEIVERS: Colston is the number 1 guy but he is diluted with Henderson/Meachem. Meachem has been lighting it up - I would look at Colston as a low-end #1 and Meachem/Henderson as #3 guys. Either guy could get hot. Looks like Moore is out again this week - probably no reason to have him on a roster at this point.
    Colston: 90 yds / 1TD
Moore: questionable - do not start unless this changes
    Henderson: 35yds / 0 TD
    Meachem: 65 yds / 0 TD

TIGHT ENDS: Shockey is a great option on a great offense. Start him and hope he gets looks in the red zone.

PLACE KICKER: Hartley now has this job back - pick him up/start him this week.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS: Bucs have been very beatable this year so I would start the Saints and hope for the best.

Bucs lose to Jags after 30 minute "lightning delay"

    This Week:
    ---------------------------
Bucs wrap up the pre-season with a trip to Houston to play the Texans.

    Rumors:
    ---------------------------
Chance that last year's big free-agent signing, Derrick Ward might get cut. His performance has been average at best. 2nd year player, Kareen Huggins has clearly out played Ward.

    Injuries:
    ---------------------------
Josh Freeman has a broken thumb. Team says he will be ready for season opener against Cleveland. How effective he will be is another story (update 8/31--Freeman begins gripping football and looking to throw in the next few days.) Kellen Winslow will not play the rest of the pre-season. He is always hurt, but team is saying he will be ready to go Sept 12th.

    Position Analysis:
    ---------------------------
QUARTERBACKS: Josh Freeman should have a fairly decent year. He seems to have made great progress since last season. He has 4 solid weapons at his disposal, albeit to are rookies. I forecast 3,000 yards and 20 TDs for Freeman. He should also be able to run in 3-4 scores during the season. (Pick him in round 15 or 16)

RUNNING BACKS: Cadillac Williams is the starter. Derrick Ward may not even make the final roster. 2nd year player Kareem Huggins has really impressed the staff and is making a case for more playing time. With Caddy's knee history, Huggins might make a nice late round sleeper. Caddy stats---275 carries---850 yards, 5 tds (ROUND 12)

WIDE RECEIVERS: The Bucs WR corp is improved, but young. Both rookies, Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn have impressed. With 2nd year WR Sammie Stroughter, they will make a nice three wide set. Williams appears to be best positioned to lead the team in WR receptions and yards. Stroughter may find himself open often as teams attempt to cover Williams, Winslow and Benn. If you are drafting a Bucs WR, it should be either Williams or Stroughter. Stats Williams--55 rec, 800 yards, 6 TD (ROUND 8 or 9) Stroughter---60 rec--700 yards, 4 TD (ROUND 10 or 11) Bennn----35 catches---400 yards 2 TD (free agent pick up later)

TIGHT ENDS: Kellen Winslow should again be focal point of this offense. With all the new WRs on board, he should find more room to roam. If healthy, I expect him to have another fine year. (ROUND 8) Stats---70 catches---800 yards--8 TDs

PLACE KICKER: Connor Barth seems poised to have a big year. With a young offense, red zone offenses tend to bog down near the goal line. I expect Barth to get a lot of chances. 25/30 FGs

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS: The Bucs defense played better last year after they returned to the Tampa two. With two new defensive linemen, the run defense should improve, allowing for more 3rd and long downs (where turnovers tend to happen.) With tanard jackson and Aqib Talib in the defensive backfield, some scores are inevitable. Clifton Smith and others will handle the the return duties and should see a couple of scores in the kicking game. Though the Bucs defense is not what it used to be, they could be a nice late-round addition to your squad.
