Last Week: --------------------------- The Cowboys followed up their big win over the Saints with a solid 17-0 win over Washington, clinching a playoff spot in the process. With the exception of struggles on third and fourth down short yardage running plays, the offense moved the ball and avoided mistakes. Tony Romo was picked once, on a deflected pass, but was otherwise very solid and continued his run of consistent December quarterbacking. Miles Austin and Jason Witten shared the top receiving honors once again. The defense pitched their first shutout in six years, and are also in excellent form right now.
This Week: --------------------------- Week 17 vs. Philadelphia: The stage is set for an NFC East title clash in the season's final week. Dallas beat Philly earlier this year, so a win here would give the Cowboys the sweep and, depending on other outcomes, even a chance for a seed as high as #2. This sets up as a great game between two of the NFC's hottest teams of late. Philadelphia has lots of big play capability with Desean Jackson, so Dallas must key on him. Brent Celek is a top tight end as well. The Eagles got Brian Westbrook back last week, and he and Lesean McCoy will probably split the carries. The Eagles defense continues to be one that blitzes a lot and thrives on forcing turnovers. Dallas will be motivated by the embarrassment of the 44-6 loss to the Eagles to end their 2008 season that cost them a playoff berth. Look for both teams to put some points on the board in a toss-up game.
Rumors: --------------------------- Six Cowboys were named to the NFC Pro Bowl team: Miles Austin, Leonard Davis, Andre Gurode, Jay Ratliff, DeMarcus Ware, and Jason Witten. The most notable omissions are Tony Romo, Michael Jenkins, and Mat McBriar. But considering the Pro Bowl is now being played before the Super Bowl, then every player hopes his spot is taken since he would have another more important game to prepare for instead.
Injuries: --------------------------- Dallas is quite healthy for this point in the season. DeMarcus Ware has shown no ill effects of his neck strain. Martellus Bennett returned to limited action last week. Patrick Watkins and Marc Columbo are the notable injuries this week.
Position Analysis: --------------------------- QUARTERBACKS:
If your fantasy team is still playing this week and you have Romo as your QB, then it's hard to imagine you have anyone else to consider. With a lot on the line this week, and at home, Romo certainly looks like an excellent fantasy choice here. While the Eagles are definitely a good defense, Dallas will need to pass to move the ball, so Romo is going to be expected to get 250 yards and a TD here.
RUNNING BACKS:
The running back situation continues to play out as nearly a 50/50 split between Marion Barber and Felix Jones. Barber is the better candidate to score a short TD, in spite of his recent struggles in short yardage. Jones is getting more carries, but still won't get enough to be counted on as a fantasy starter. Look for about 50 total yards from each back, with Barber the one most likely to find the end zone.
WIDE RECEIVERS:
Miles Austin has to be one of the best stories in the NFL and fantasy football in 2009. He got an opportunity and seized it. While most experts (including Jerry Jones) had pegged Roy Williams as the successor to Terrell Owens, it was Austin who emerged in that role. Start him as a #1 receiver and look for 100 yards and a score in the season finale. Williams did score on a short TD catch last week, then went on to have two bad drops. He gets very few looks now. Patrick Crayton also gets only a handful of passes his way.
TIGHT ENDS:
Jason Witten turned a short pass into about a 70-yard play last week - but still came up short of the goal line. Still, it's hard to sit him as your fantasy tight end, as he will probably get 6-7 catches and 70-80 yards here.
PLACE KICKER:
Shaun Suisham made his only attempt last week at Washington, the site of his miss that got him cut by the Redskins. This week, he returns to kick in Cowboys Stadium, where he missed twice earlier this year in Washington's 10-9 loss to Dallas. Since Dallas will need to score and they are playing in climate controlled conditions, Suisham is a decent option this week if you're trying to find a kicker.
DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS:
Defense and special teams always factor into Dallas-Philadelphia games. Both teams have playmakers in these two areas. The Dallas DST is a good, but not great, choice this week, as Philadelphia is certainly capable of putting 20+ points on the board. Donovan McNabb is pretty good at avoiding sacks and turnovers, too.

Last Week: ---------------------------
This Week: --------------------------- Another year of Eagles football. Lets get going. I see this year as a semi-rebuilding year...not a traditional re-building year, but one of getting these young guys some experience. Kolb is the main man now that McNabb (who I did boo on draft day, but hey, we all did) has gone to the Skins. I think he'll do well. I don't think it will be as good as some say though. The D should be really good though, better than advertised. The 3rd pre-season game will tell...but if you are drafting this weekend (Like most) don't discount the Bird players.
Rumors: --------------------------- Good luck in your draft.
Injuries: ---------------------------
Position Analysis: ---------------------------
QUARTERBACKS:
All you need here is Kevin Kolb. He is going in most drafts in the late 7th early 8th round, but I think you need to look at him earlier because of the hype. He is on a shortlist of sleepers and break-out players, and it has been noticed. Look at the top of round 7 to get him. I like him for 3500 yards...alot of agencies are saying 4k plus, but I think with his schedule go a bit lower. He needs some seasoning. Vick, well, he won't be drafted in 90% of the leagues (unless you draft pit bulls). Forget him.
RUNNING BACKS:
LeSean McCoy is the main back, but don't discount Bell from New Orleans. McCoy's carries last year were on average 18, and even thouhg he is a tough runner, he hasn't had the full duty yet. I think he'll be fine a surprise as a top 12 RB this year. Bell may get some of the goal line carries, which will lower McCoy's numbers, but thats how it is. 1100 rush, 500 pass, 8 TD's is a good bet. Bell looks like he may get goal line carries, so 4-6 TD's may be a lock. No one else is of worth unless injuries creep in. Remember, in Andy's O a RB MUST block, and if they can't they don't play (i.e Charles Scott).
WIDE RECEIVERS:
DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin are the two starters. Jackson is a top 10 WR pick, and rightfully so. He is one of the most electrifying players in the NFL today. Maclin is a good receiver in his own right, and will push this year as WR1a to Jackson's 1. They both are extremely talented. They have a good rapport with Kolb (they did not have that with mcNabb) and I see both doing great! Jackson will hover around 10, but Maclin I think will be around 25. The Eagles will thro alot this year. The one player I think who will get less this year is Celek. We'll see. Jackson should go in round 4, Maclin round 10+.
TIGHT ENDS
Celek is a top 5 TE this year, and will be there (or close) at the end. I think his numbers stay the same or drop slightly though because of Maclin's development, as well as McCoy. Someone has to get less, and with the speed on the outside, and McCoy having a great camp, I think its Celek. I still like him for 700 yards and 8 TD's though. In TE leagues look for him late round 5 or early 6.
PLACE KICKER:
Akers is Akers. When kickers start to go he will go quick. If you want him get him in round 11. Top 5 finish this year.
DEFENSE:
This squad will be one of the best in recent Eagle's history. They have one thing that you can't teach...SPEED. These guys are fast. Look for this squad to get sacks, picks, and cause alot of problems for young QB's. Guys like Romo, Manning, and McNabb will do ok, as they have the experience to slow the game down, but others will struggle. I like this squad for 42 sacks. In some leagues (like mine) they were the first squad chosen. Don't make that mistake. There are better defenses like the Jets and 49ers that will be better week in and out, so look for these guys in the top 5.

| Washington Redskins |
By: Kerm Nored Updated: 12/17/2009
Please access our Premium Products for the Washington Redskins Team Capsule, Player Rankings/Statistics, Crystal Ball Projections, Fantasy Recommendations and much more.
Last Week: --------------------------- Redskins - 34, Raiders - 13: After a series of maddening last minute losses three games in a row, the Redskins played their best game of the season and beat the Raiders in Oakland. The defense knocked starting Raider QB Bruce Gradkowski out of the game (and out for the year) and once JaMarcus Russell came in, the game was over. Offensively, QB Jason Campbell continued his solid play over the last month with 222 yards passing, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. RB Quinton Ganther showed he could possibly take over for Clinton Portis next year by gaining 94 total yards and 2 touchdowns. TE Fred Davis gained 50 yards and grabbed both of Campbell's touchdown passes.
This Week: --------------------------- The Redskins welcome the struggling New York Giants to Washington for a Monday night game. Hmmmmmm, knocking a giant hole in your arch-rival's playoff chances could save a disappointing season, don't you think???
Rumors: --------------------------- That cheering you're hearing from the Nation's Capitol isn't about health care reform, it's about Vinnie Cerrato getting axed by the team. Oh, sorry ... he "resigned". Cerrato is widely regarded as one of the most inept front office execs in the NFL by Redskin fans. The simple fact that he's gone and has been replaced by the son of legendary Redskin coach, George Allen, is just icing on the cake. Bruce Allen has been a successful exec recently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is the first official "General Manager" that owner Dan Snyder has ever had. Could his old coach, Jon Gruden, be prowling the sidelines next year as head coach??? We'll see. In any event, all the players know that they're playing for their jobs next year and could get an boost from the change. Add in the divisional foe factor, and an upset could be brewing.
Injuries: --------------------------- Nothing is being reported at this time, but we'll keep you up to date.
Position Analysis: --------------------------- QUARTERBACKS: Jason Campbell shouldn't really be starting for your team if you're vying for your league championship, but the Giants defense isn't playing well and Campbell is. He could easily be a dark horse this week. If you're playing in a consolation game and your #1 has a bad match-up or is dinged, Campbell could be a good alternative.
Prediction: 260 yds, 2 td, 1 int
RUNNING BACKS: Quinton Ganther is the starting running back and is the only Redskin back worth playing.
Projection: Ganther - 110 total yards, 1 touchdown.
WIDE RECEIVERS: If you watched the Giants last game, you know they've got major injuries and issues in their secondary. If you need a #3 fantasy receiver or flex player, Santana Moss might get you some points. Devin Thomas could also fill that bill for you if the Giants roll their coverage over towards Moss.
Prediction: Moss - 5 catches, 60 yards, 0 touchdowns; Randle-El - 4 catches, 30 yards, 0 touchdowns; Thomas - 6 catches, 60 yards, 1 touchdown.
TIGHT ENDS: Probably the best bet to have a decent fantasy day is TE Fred Davis who will catch a lot of short stuff to save Campbell's neck from the pass rush.
Prediction: 6 catches, 60 yards, 1 td
PLACE KICKER: It's Week 14 and if you're adding Graham Gano (or is it Guano???) to your team, you're sunk already.
Prediction: 1 FG, 3 XP.
DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS: As bad as this season has been, the Redskin defense has shone through. The Giants have offensive weapons and can put up yards and points, but they're also susceptible to turnovers, so the Redskin defense could be a huge high risk/reward team this week. Go ahead and start them.
