Jason Witten - TE, Dallas Cowboys Monday, August 30, 11:53 PM EST
News Story: Witten caught 7 passes for 109 yards Monday night.
Fantasy Analysis: This was a great outing for the young TE. If this translates well to the regular season, he may be a good free agent pickup, expecially for TE-required leagues.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Terry Glenn - WR, Dallas Cowboys Monday, August 30, 11:51 PM EST
News Story: Glenn had 3 receptions for 69 yards Monday against the Titans.
Fantasy Analysis: This was not a bad outing for Glenn. As long as he stays healthy, he should be no higher than a 4th receiver.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Antonio Bryant - WR, Cleveland Browns Monday, August 30, 11:49 PM EST
News Story: Bryant had a single reception for 2 yards Monday night.
Fantasy Analysis: Do not expect much from Bryant this year unless Glenn or Johnson goes down with injury. He really is not worth a roster spot.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Keyshawn Johnson - WR, Dallas Cowboys Monday, August 30, 11:47 PM EST
News Story: Keyshawn had 8 receptions for 81 yards against the Titans.
Fantasy Analysis: It looks like Johnson and Testeverde will in fact depend on each other this year a lot. He would make a STRONG 3rd wide receiver.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Julius Jones - RB, Dallas Cowboys Monday, August 30, 11:43 PM EST
News Story: Jones carried the ball 8 times for 29 yards Monday night. He also caught 3 for 31 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: Julius Jones is biding his time and making a case for his future value. If you are in a keeper league, this guy may be a steal for your team as he is the future of the Cowboy rushing attack. If there are no keepers in your league, he will make great insurance for Eddie George.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Eddie George - RB, Dallas Cowboys Monday, August 30, 11:41 PM EST
News Story: George had 3 yards rushing on 4 carries against his old team, the Tennessee Titans.
Fantasy Analysis: Remember, even though George has a low average yards per carry over his career, it takes him a quarter or so to get going in the game. Having such limited playtime did not necessarily give him the time to get hot like we will see in the regular season. He would be a nice 3rd option at RB.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Vinny Testaverde - QB, Dallas Cowboys Monday, August 30, 11:39 PM EST
News Story: Testeverde completed 17 of 24 passes for 240 yards and a score.
Fantasy Analysis: Vinny also threw an INT, but we have come to understand you take the good with the bad with Vinny. He should be a 3rd fantasy QB only.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tyrone Calico - WR, Tennessee Titans Monday, August 30, 11:37 PM EST
News Story: Calico had 2 catches for 41 yards Monday night.
Fantasy Analysis: The second year wideout hopes to get more touches in the 3rd WR spot. Calico could be worth a 5th spot as there will be gaps between his brilliant games filled with games where you wonder if he even shows up.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Derrick Mason - WR, Tennessee Titans Monday, August 30, 11:35 PM EST
News Story: Mason caught 2 passes for 19 yards on Monday night.
Fantasy Analysis: Mason also only saw a quarter and a series of work. However, we see him as a top 10 WR.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chris Brown - RB, Tennessee Titans Monday, August 30, 11:33 PM EST
News Story: Brown had 35 rushes on 8 carries and a score. He also had 2 receptions for 16 yards against the Cowboys.
Fantasy Analysis: Brown is looking pretty sharp. On his touchdown score, he threw a beautiful stiff arm to Roy Williams to scoot in for the score.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve McNair - QB, Tennessee Titans Monday, August 30, 11:28 PM EST
News Story: McNair completed 7 of 10 passes for 85 yards Monday night against the Cowboys.
Fantasy Analysis: The Titans do not want to throw McNair into extended action just yet. He got a quarter and a series in and did pretty well. He looks to be a top 10 QB.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Charles Woodson - CB, Oakland Raiders Monday, August 30, 9:45 PM EST
News Story: Charles Woodson's role with the Oakland Raiders is diminishing with each day he is away from the team.
Even if the holdout cornerback were to show up Tuesday, Woodson will not play in Oakland's preseason finale Thursday against St. Louis, and he won't be in the starting lineup for the team's season opener on Sept. 12 at Pittsburgh.
If he plays at all against the Steelers, it would be at nickel back, coach Norv Turner said Monday.
Fantasy Analysis: Denard Walker will start for Woodson.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Travis Henry - RB, Buffalo Bills Monday, August 30, 9:45 PM EST
News Story: Running back Travis Henry, who missed last week with bruised ribs, practiced on a limited basis. Henry said he expects to sit out his second straight preseason game Thursday to be ready for the start of the season.
Fantasy Analysis: Henry will be ready to go in week one.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Shane Matthews - QB, Buffalo Bills Monday, August 30, 9:45 PM EST
News Story: Shane Matthews signed with the Buffalo Bills on Monday, bolstering the team's banged-up quarterback corps.
Matthews, an 11-year veteran, is expected to immediately take over as Drew Bledsoe's backup, filling in for Travis Brown, who will miss 4-6 weeks with a sprained left knee. The signing came after Matthews attended the team's practice and sat in on offensive meetings earlier in the day.
Fantasy Analysis: Matthews will now backup Drew Bledsoe.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Troy Brown - WR, New England Patriots Monday, August 30, 9:16 PM EST
News Story: Brown suffered a knee injury in Saturday night's game.
Fantasy Analysis: The injury is minor and Brown is listed as day to day.
Source: Fantasy Insights ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Aaron Elling - K, Minnesota Vikings Monday, August 30, 9:15 PM EST
News Story: Elling gets a reprieve with Dan Orner being cut today.
Fantasy Analysis: The Vikings will scour the waiver wire for a veteran kicker to sign. Elling's job is not safe.
Source: Fantasy Insights ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Jerry Rice - WR, Seattle Seahawks Monday, August 30, 9:13 PM EST
News Story: Rice has been limited in practice due to a sore hamstring.
Fantasy Analysis: The injury is not serious and Rice is listed as day to day.
Source: Fantasy Insights ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Patrick Johnson - WR, Baltimore Ravens Monday, August 30, 9:12 PM EST
News Story: Signed as a free agent in March, Johnson suffered a broken right hand in Saturday's preseason game against Atlanta.
Fantasy Analysis: Johnson will miss the entire season.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Anderson - RB, Denver Broncos Monday, August 30, 9:12 PM EST
News Story: Anderson tore two groin muscles in Saturday nights game and will miss the entire season.
Fantasy Analysis: The Broncos have depth at running back even though Anderson will miss the season. Garrison Hearst moves into the backup spot.
Source: Fantasy Insights ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Mark Brunell - QB, Washington Redskins Monday, August 30, 9:11 PM EST
News Story: As expected, Mark Brunell will be Washington's starting quarterback. He beat out Patrick Ramsey, last year's starter.
Brunell, acquired in the offseason from Jacksonville, had been more impressive in preseason games. He also has 117 starts in his career to 16 for Ramsey and experience always has been important for coach Joe Gibbs.
''I just think right now it's time to make a decision,'' Gibbs said. ''I think we need to spend more time with the quarterback and receivers on timing that we haven't been able to get because we're in-and-out, in-and-out.''
Fantasy Analysis: This was pretty much expected. Why would the Redskins pay Brunell all that money and sit him on the bench.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hugh Douglas - DE, Jacksonville Jaguars Monday, August 30, 9:09 PM EST
News Story: Hugh Douglas, signed to a five-year $27 million deal last season, was cut by Jacksonville.
The 33-year-old defensive end, who also received a $6 million signing bonus, started all 16 games last season but finished with only 31 tackles and 3{ sacks, his second-worst season in nine years.
He started all three of the Jaguars' preseason games this year, registering four tackles and four quarterback pressures.
Douglas' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said he had spoken with Philadelphia, were Douglas starred from 1998-2002. The Eagles lost starting defensive end N.D. Kalu for the season with a knee injury two weeks ago.
Fantasy Analysis: The Jaguars will have to fill his end spot and will likely do that with Lionel Barnes.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Travis Brown - QB, Indianapolis Colts Monday, August 30, 9:08 PM EST
News Story: The Buffalo Bills got better news about backup quarterback Travis Brown.
Brown sprained a ligament in his left knee and will miss between four and six weeks.
Bills president Tom Donahoe said he's relieved Brown's injury is not as severe as initially feared, adding the team has begun seeking to sign a veteran replacement to serve as Drew Bledsoe's backup to start the season.
Fantasy Analysis: The good news is that Brown will be back this season. Greg Zolman will backup Drew Bledsoe.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Heiden - TE, Cleveland Browns Monday, August 30, 9:07 PM EST
News Story: The Browns also will be without starting tight end Steve Heiden for two to four weeks after he sprained his knee Saturday against Kansas City. Heiden's injury means rookie Kellen Winslow Jr. will start at tight end even although he still hasn't played much following his 12-day holdout during training camp.
Fantasy Analysis: Not a great loss as the Browns have Winslow to take over for Heiden.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kyle Brady - TE, Jacksonville Jaguars Monday, August 30, 9:06 PM EST
News Story: Brady will have surgery Tuesday to insert a pin into a finger injured Friday. The Jaguars open the season Sept. 12 in Buffalo before returning home the following week to face the Denver Broncos.
''I don't know if there was ligament damage or anything else, other than he'll be out a minimum of three weeks,'' coach Jack Del Rio said.
Fantasy Analysis: Brady will miss at least the first week of the season and possibly more.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Bennett - RB, Minnesota Vikings Monday, August 30, 9:05 PM EST
News Story: Running back Michael Bennett will miss the Minnesota Vikings' regular season opener Sept. 12 against Dallas with a right knee sprain and could be out longer.
Bennett, injured in the third quarter of Friday's exhibition win on a low hit by 49ers safety Erik Totten, underwent an MRI exam Saturday that revealed more damage than originally diagnosed.
Coach Mike Tice initially said that Bennett would be ''a little iffy'' for the Dallas game, but on Monday declared his starting back out for the opener. Tice said he is hoping to get him back for the second game, in Philadelphia.
Fantasy Analysis: Bennett won't be back until week two or three. Moe Williams starts for the injured Bennett.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Joe Jurevicius - WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday, August 30, 7:23 AM EST
News Story: Receiver Joe Jurevicius has begun running after surgery this month to repair a herniated disc in his back. He has missed all of training camp.
"I can't speak for him," Gruden said. "I looked out my window and saw him zipping around out there. He doesn't look far away to me. I'm charged up, I'm very excited by what I'm seeing out there on the field. I'm not going to say it's the opening game, but if it's not the opening game, it doesn't look far, far away. He's been very impressive in his initial workouts here after this surgery. He's come a long way in a short period of time."
Fantasy Analysis: Jurevicius is not expected to be ready by the opener but sometime in September. The Bucs are short on depth at the position due to the holdout of Keenan McCardell.
Source: Tampa Bay Online ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Shelton Quarels - LB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday, August 30, 7:21 AM EST
News Story: Linebacker Shelton Quarles, who is recovering from a broken forearm, will be held out of the preseason finale Thursday at Houston but is scheduled to start Sept.12 against the Redskins.
Fantasy Analysis: Quarels will be ready for the opener September 12.
Source: Tampa Bay Online ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Grant Wistrom - DL, Seattle Seahawks Monday, August 30, 7:19 AM EST
News Story: Grant Wistrom, the man with the $14 million signing bonus and five more career NFL sacks than the rest of the Seahawks defensive ends combined, practiced with his new team for the first time yesterday.
And while the Seahawks' cautious approach to his rehabilitation left Wistrom pleading to return sooner, it also left his foot in the right place. Healthy.
Fantasy Analysis: The Seahawks paid a lot of money for Wistrom and want to get him into the lineup. They will not rush him but he needs to start soon as he is an integral part of their revamped defense.
Source: Seattle Times ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tim Rattay - QB, San Francisco 49ers Monday, August 30, 7:16 AM EST
News Story: Quarterback Tim Rattay enjoyed his best day of practice since suffering a right-forearm strain. He threw deeper and with more velocity -- a noticeable improvement from his restrained performance against Minnesota.
``Today was the best it's felt,'' Rattay said.
In his preseason debut against the Vikings, he completed 7 of 10 passes -- but only one completion went for more than 9 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: Rattay will start this weekend against San Diego and play the first two or three series.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chris Dishman - OL, St. Louis Rams Monday, August 30, 7:10 AM EST
News Story: When the Rams lured veteran Chris Dishman out of retirement last month, they probably figured they merely were adding depth to the offensive line. Now it looks as if they may have found a starter.
Dishman, 30, appears to have a solid hold on the left guard job. He played the entire game Friday night, when the Rams beat Washington 28-3, and graded out well.
Fantasy Analysis: Dishman will start this weekend and likely be the starter opening day.
Source: St. Louis Post Dispatch ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ben Watson - TE, New England Patriots Monday, August 30, 7:07 AM EST
News Story: With Watson lining up opposite Daniel Graham [news], the Pats were able to implement their two-tight end offense the way they envisioned when they took Watson with 32nd overall pick out of Georgia. The two tight-end, one-back set has essentially been the Pats' base scheme since fullback Marc Edwards left two years ago, but with Watson in the fold it takes on a different dimension.
Watson can do so many different things that it puts pressure on the defense in terms of matchups and recognition. That's not necessarily the case for most tight ends. Christian Fauria, for example, is primarily a pass-catcher. Fred Baxter, last year's third tight end, is almost exclusively a blocker. When the Pats used one of those players in the past, defenses knew what was coming.
Fantasy Analysis: Watson expects to win the backup job. This pushes Christian Fauria to #3 or possibly a cut before the season starts.
Source: Boston Herald ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Sammy Morris - RB, Miami Dolphins Monday, August 30, 7:05 AM EST
News Story: The halfback spot is the most pressing need because the Dolphins are having their worst preseason running the football since 1991. The team's 3.0 yard per carry average is the lowest since '91, when the team averaged 2.9 yards per carry in that preseason.
That is perhaps the reason the Dolphins might experiment using Sammy Morris as their starter this week against New Orleans and letting Travis Minor play as a change-of-pace back -- a role some coaches believe he's better suited to play.
Fantasy Analysis: Morris will likely get his chance this week to start. If he plays well, he could be the starter opening day.
Source: Miami Herald ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Richard Smith - WR, Kansas City Chiefs Monday, August 30, 6:57 AM EST
News Story: With veterans Eddie Kennison and Dante Hall locked in as starters, the task of filling Boerigter's role as the third receiver will fall to a group that includes second-year player Chris Horn and rookies Samie Parker and Richard Smith.
Right now, Smith is the front-runner. An undrafted rookie out of Arkansas, Smith started the preseason opener against the Giants and has caught five passes for 103 yards in three games.
Fantasy Analysis: The Chiefs don't throw a lot to their receivers so even if Smith wins the #3 job, we don't see much value.
Source: Kansas City Star ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Johnnie Morton - WR, Kansas City Chiefs Monday, August 30, 6:55 AM EST
News Story: Morton has been limited to extremely light on-field work, and no timetable has been set for his return.
“I have no clue when he's coming back,” Vermeil said of Morton. “He broke a sweat (Saturday night) in pre-game warm-ups and that was a positive. He's starting to feel better, but the Achilles' tendon isn't like dealing with any other tendon in your body in terms of injury. You have to be more cautious.”
Fantasy Analysis: Morton will not be ready to play when the Chiefs play their opener in two weeks.
Source: Kansas City Star ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Jacksonville Jaguars Monday, August 30, 6:53 AM EST
News Story: No one will be more relieved to see running back LaBrandon Toefield and fullback Marc Edwards return to practice today than Jaguars rookie Greg Jones.
With Toefield, Edwards and a host of other runners sidelined by injury this month, Jones has been virtually a one-man backfield for the Jaguars in their past two preseason games.
Fantasy Analysis: The Jaguars need their depth at running back on the field as Fred Taylor is out this week. Both Toefield and Edwards should play this week.
Source: Jacksonville Times Union ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Bob Sanders - LB, Indianapolis Colts Monday, August 30, 6:51 AM EST
News Story: Indianapolis Colts rookie safety Bob Sanders should participate in his first practice today after the holdout missed three weeks of training camp and three preseason games in a contract dispute.
Colts coach Tony Dungy said in a Sunday telephone interview that Sanders should pass his physical, have a contract signed and be prepared to go to work this morning at the team's complex.
Fantasy Analysis: Sanders will not start but should provide the Colts with quality depth at linebacker.
Source: Indianapolis Star ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dunta Robinson - S, Houston Texans Monday, August 30, 6:50 AM EST
News Story: Rookie cornerback Dunta Robinson had a great first game against the Dallas Cowboys, but he's given up some big plays in the past two games. The coaches like the way Robinson bounces back from a bad play and are not overly concerned with his mistakes.
"Any time you have a young corner, they're going to throw the ball that way," Texans coach Dom Capers said. "He's an aggressive player, and we like that about him. You can't back off and you can't play tentatively at that position."
Robinson is looking for improvement in Thursday's preseason finale against Tampa Bay, his final tuneup for the regular-season opener.
Fantasy Analysis: Robinson remains the starter at safety. It will take some time to get used to the pro game so we are sure Robinson will be fine.
Source: Houston Chronicle ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ahman Green - RB, Green Bay Packers Monday, August 30, 6:48 AM EST
News Story: Running back Ahman Green underwent a diagnostic test on his left knee but results continued to show a bruised kneecap. Sherman was noncommittal about his return.
Fantasy Analysis: Green is expected to miss this week's game but be ready for the opener in two weeks.
Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kevin Jones - RB, Detroit Lions Monday, August 30, 6:44 AM EST
News Story: Jones played the Baltimore game with a foot injury he suffered Thursday in practice and will be evaluated to determine how much time he will get in the final exhibition game Thursday against Buffalo
Fantasy Analysis: Considering Jones was hurt Saturday night, he played pretty well. He is listed as day to day.
Source: Detroit Free Press ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Anderson - RB, Denver Broncos Monday, August 30, 6:42 AM EST
News Story: Denver running back Mike Anderson will see a specialist today for another opinion on his groin injury, coach Mike Shanahan said, but it appears Anderson could miss anywhere from two months to the entire season.
Fantasy Analysis: It sounds like there is some hope that Anderson will be back but we would not hold our breath. We plan on him missing the season.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Jeff Garcia - QB, Cleveland Browns Monday, August 30, 6:40 AM EST
News Story: Describing the first-team offensive performance as "chaotic at times," quarterback Jeff Garcia criticized the Browns for not playing him enough to get ready for the regular season.
"It's very frustrating," Garcia said after the Browns beat the Chiefs, 21-19, in Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday. "We're not on the same page, and I don't think we looked like an offense playing in its third preseason game. I'm new to this offense and I need opportunities. It's not going to happen in the last preseason game and that's unfortunate."
Fantasy Analysis: Garcia is playing in a new offense and needs the playing time to feel comfortable. It will now probably take him the first couple weeks of the season to get real comfortable.
Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Desmond Clark - TE, Chicago Bears Monday, August 30, 6:39 AM EST
News Story: Tight end Desmond Clark also practiced for the first time in four weeks, a return as significant to the offense as Urlacher's is to the defense, but the first words out coach Lovie Smith's mouth addressed his relief to see Urlacher back in the middle.
Fantasy Analysis: Clark is expected to start opening day if he can stay healthy the next two weeks.
Source: Chicago Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Brian Urlacher - LB, Chicago Bears Monday, August 30, 6:36 AM EST
News Story: Brian Urlacher returned to practice and his rightful spot at middle linebacker, knocking Hillenmeyer back to a backup role the Bears hope he occupies all season. Nothing against Hillenmeyer, but the Bears defense without Urlacher is like the Chicago skyline without the Sears Tower—nice, but unlikely to make people rave across the nation.
Fantasy Analysis: The Bears defense has played okay but the return of Urlacher elevates it.
Source: Chicago Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Lawyer Milloy - S, Buffalo Bills Monday, August 30, 6:33 AM EST
News Story: Meanwhile on the defensive side of the ball, Milloy underwent surgery on Sunday morning to repair his broken right forearm. A plate was inserted to help the healing process.
Team officials could not give a timetable for Milloy's return but Milloy expressed optimism that he could play in the regular-season opener on Sept. 12 against Jacksonville.
Fantasy Analysis: Coy Wire will start in his place in Thursday's final preseason game at Detroit.
Source: Buffalo News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Cliff Russell - WR, Cincinnati Bengals Monday, August 30, 6:32 AM EST
News Story: Russell was released on Sunday. Russell had missed the first three weeks of this year's training camp with a hamstring injury. He was drafted in the third round of 2002 from Utah, but missed his first season with a knee injury. Last year, he appeared in three games and had two catches for 10 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: Russell had great potential when he came in the league but he has not been able to stay healthy.
Source: Baltimore Sun ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kevin Mitchell - LB, Washington Redskins Monday, August 30, 6:31 AM EST
News Story: Mitchell was acquired by the Redskins as a free agent in 2000 from the New Orleans Saints. He served as a backup last year to middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter and played on special teams.
His best season was 2001 when he started 13 games and had a career-high 82 tackles. He played five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, who drafted him in the second round of 1994, and one season with the Saints.
Mitchell became expendable because of the emergence of younger linebackers, including fourth-year man Antonio Pierce.
Fantasy Analysis: The release of Mitchell is not significant as there are plenty of good linebackers on the Redskins roster.
Source: Baltimore Sun ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Baltimore Ravens Monday, August 30, 6:27 AM EST
News Story: Deion Sanders and Chris McAlister are scheduled to report to the Ravens this week, elevating the team's defensive backfield among the NFL's elite. Team officials confirmed last night that Sanders is expected to end his three-year retirement and play for the Ravens, which ends two weeks of speculation on whether the seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback would come back to play nickel back (fifth defensive back).
Fantasy Analysis: The addition of Sanders and return of McAlister make the Ravens the #1 defense in the league.
Source: Baltimore Sun ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc Boerigter - WR, Kansas City Chiefs Monday, August 30, 6:25 AM EST
News Story: Marc Boerigter will undergo knee surgery on Monday and might be lost for the year, throwing Kansas City's tattered wide receiver corps into even greater disarray.
Boerigter, who seemed ready to rebound from a subpar 2003 season, twisted his right knee in a noncontact play early in the Chiefs' 21-19 exhibition loss Saturday night to Cleveland.
Coach Dick Vermeil said Sunday that doctors believe Boerigter might have suffered ligament damage.
"I'll know more tomorrow after they operate as to what the projections are," Vermeil said. "Personally, I don't believe (Boerigter will return) this season. That hurt me more than losing the game."
Fantasy Analysis: This is pretty much what was expected when he was injured Saturday night. He is likely out for the season. Dante Hall and Eddie Kennison are the starters.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Smith - WR, Carolina Panthers Sunday, August 29, 6:59 PM EST
News Story: Smith suffered a pulled hamstring in Saturday night's game against New England.
Fantasy Analysis: The injury is minor and Smith is listed as day to day.
Source: Fantasy Insights ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Brock Huard - QB, Seattle Seahawks Sunday, August 29, 6:52 PM EST
News Story: The Seattle Seahawks placed No. 3 quarterback Brock Huard on injured reserve Sunday.
Huard hasn't practiced since having muscle spasms in his back on Aug. 5.
A third-round pick in 1999, Huard spent his first three seasons with the Seahawks and then two years in Indianapolis before re-signing with Seattle in the offseason.
Fantasy Analysis: No great loss here...Matt Hasselbeck is #1 and Trent Dilfer is #2.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kurt Warner - QB, New York Giants Sunday, August 29, 5:53 PM EST
News Story: Briefly citing Warner's experience and recent play, coach Tom Coughlin announced Sunday that the two-time MVP had beaten out the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft for the starting job in the season opener at Philadelphia on Sept. 12.
''We give Kurt the ball and say, `Kurt, let's go win,''' Coughlin said, ending a competition that has dominated training camp.
The choice wasn't surprising in the wake of Friday's 17-10 loss to the Jets. Warner played well and Manning did not during his worst day on the field since signing a $45 million contract in late July.
Fantasy Analysis: Definitely not a surprise here. Warner had the best preseason and will start for the foreseeable future. However, Manning will start playing the first sign of trouble.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kevin Johnson - WR, Baltimore Ravens Sunday, August 29, 10:47 AM EST
News Story: Johnson had 3 receptions for 40 yards against the Lions.
Fantasy Analysis: Johnson and Travis Taylor will wrestle for top receiver options all year. Because of this, Johnson cannot be considered any higher than a strong 4th receiver.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Jamal Lewis - RB, Baltimore Ravens Sunday, August 29, 10:47 AM EST
News Story: Lewis carried the ball 4 times for 4 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: I tlooks like he is saving his stuff for the season. We have him ranked as a top ten RB.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Musa Smith - RB, Baltimore Ravens Sunday, August 29, 10:46 AM EST
News Story: Musa had 10 carries for 19 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: Smith will split time with taylor over backup duties for Lewis.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chester Taylor - RB, Baltimore Ravens Sunday, August 29, 10:45 AM EST
News Story: Taylor had 117 yards on 10 carries and 2 scores.
Fantasy Analysis: If and when Lewis is not in the game, it looks more and more like Taylor and Smith will split time. This was a great outing for Taylor.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kyle Boller - QB, Baltimore Ravens Sunday, August 29, 10:44 AM EST
News Story: Boller had 93 yards passing and completed 9 of 14 attempts.
Fantasy Analysis: Boller is obviously the starter for the Ravens. He will not be productive enough to consider him any higher than a 3rd QB for now.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Charles Rogers - WR, Detroit Lions Sunday, August 29, 10:43 AM EST
News Story: Rogers had 2 receptions for 35 yards on Saturday against the Ravens.
Fantasy Analysis: Rogers will be the top receiver in this offense and is a strong 3rd receiver or a decent 2nd if needed.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Roy X Williams - WR, Detroit Lions Sunday, August 29, 10:42 AM EST
News Story: Williams had 3 receptions for 40 yards against the Ravens Saturday night.
Fantasy Analysis: With Rogers on the other side, these two receivers should get the bulk of the action. Williams may be a strong 4th receiver or a decent 3rd if you need him.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kevin Jones - RB, Detroit Lions Sunday, August 29, 10:41 AM EST
News Story: Jones had 36 yards rushing on 7 attempts.
Fantasy Analysis: Jones is the RB of the future for Detroit and will get every opportunity to prove his value early. Jones may be a good pick for the middle rounds and a 3rd or 4th option for your team.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Joey Harrington - QB, Detroit Lions Sunday, August 29, 10:39 AM EST
News Story: Harrington had 98 yards passing and completed 11 of 20.
Fantasy Analysis: He is learning in this offense and if all goes well, with the weapons the Lions have provided him, he could be a top 15 QB. He would make a decent backup QB for a fantasy team.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Andre Davis - WR, Cleveland Browns Sunday, August 29, 10:38 AM EST
News Story: Davis had a reception for 13 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: The ball will be put in a variety of hands in this offense. Do not expect any Browns receivers to have flashy stats.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dennis Northcutt - WR, Cleveland Browns Sunday, August 29, 10:37 AM EST
News Story: Northcutt had 36 yards receiving on 4 receptions against the Chiefs Saturday night.
Fantasy Analysis: There are many tools for Garcia in this offense. Considering the weak O-line, it would be tough to count on any of these guys any higher than a 4th receiver option.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- William Green - RB, Cleveland Browns Sunday, August 29, 10:36 AM EST

News Story: Johnson completed 8 of 12 passes for 72 yards against the Dolphins.

Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Marty Booker - WR, Miami Dolphins Sunday, August 29, 10:07 AM EST
News Story: Booker had 2 receptions for 25 yards.

Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chris Chambers - WR, Miami Dolphins Sunday, August 29, 10:05 AM EST
News Story: Chambers had 56 yards on 4 receptions against the Bucs.
Fantasy Analysis: Chambers will try to break into the top twenty receivers by year's end. This may be difficult with a struggling running game and mediocre QB's. However, the addition of Marty Booker has increased his chances.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Travis Minor - RB, Miami Dolphins Sunday, August 29, 10:04 AM EST
News Story: Minor had 11 yards rushing on 6 attempts.
Fantasy Analysis: Okay, now realize, his longest run was 12 yards. Figure that one out. Minor is still slated as the starter, but the Dolphins are still likely to make a move to get another RB in there.

News Story: Feeley had 8 completions on 14 attempts for 83 yards.

As a result, we expect Fiedler to take the starting role for week 1 as he went 7 for 11 with 55 yards passing. Neither QB as a starter is worthy of any higher than a 3rd or 4th QB option for your fantasy team.

News Story: Collins completed 3 of 7 passes for 79 yards and a score.
Fantasy Analysis: Collins is a strong backup for Gannon but will remain so unless Gannon falters terribly or is injured. Currently, he is not worth a roster spot.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Rich Gannon - QB, Oakland Raiders Sunday, August 29, 9:38 AM EST
News Story: Gannon completed 8 of 12 passes for 89 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: Gannon will begin the season as the starter and should be able to maintain it unless he comes completely off the tracks or goes down with injury. In this young offense, Gannon cannot be counted on for more than a 3rd QB on your roster.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ricky Proehl - WR, Carolina Panthers Sunday, August 29, 9:37 AM EST
News Story: Proehl had 5 receptions for 74 yards and a score.

News Story: Foster had only 16 yards on 10 carries against the Patriots. He also had 3 receptions for 33 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: Remember, Foster is backup to Davis, who sat this game out. Foster will get some playing time as he will spell Davis even more than he did last year.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Jake Delhomme - QB, Carolina Panthers Sunday, August 29, 9:26 AM EST
News Story: Delhomme had 201 yards passing and a score. He compleed 18 of 31 passes against a tough Patriot D.
Fantasy Analysis: Delhomme should be a top 15 QB and would make a strong backup QB for your fantasy team.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Daniel Graham - TE, New England Patriots Sunday, August 29, 9:24 AM EST
News Story: Graham had 2 receptions for 50 yards and a score.
Fantasy Analysis: In this game, we saw the offense depend on the tight end a lot. In leagues that include tight ends, this could make Graham a valuable player. We seee him as a top 20 tight end.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- David Patten - WR, New England Patriots Sunday, August 29, 9:23 AM EST
News Story: Patten had 6 receptions for 62 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: This offense spreads the ball around well. Where Patten has 6 receptions this week, he may have 2 next week. He should be no better than a 4th receiver on your team.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Deion Branch - WR, New England Patriots Sunday, August 29, 9:18 AM EST
News Story: Branch had 5 catches for 71 yards against the Panthers saturday.
Fantasy Analysis: We estimate that Branch is actually Brady's "new favorite receiver." However, remember how he likes to spread the ball around. We would not count on Branch for more than a third receiver.

News Story: Faulk rushed for 28 yards on 7 carries. He also had a reception for 14 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: The Patriots look to continue to use both backs. Dillon will obviously get the bulk of the carries. However, if you are desperate for a RB late in your draft, Faulk may be a good wild card, as he will catch passes out of the backfield and spell Dillon.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Corey Dillon - RB, New England Patriots Sunday, August 29, 9:15 AM EST
News Story: Dillon had 50 yards rushing on 13 attempts Saturday night.
Fantasy Analysis: Dillon looks to fit into this scheme perfectly. Of course, given the success of the Patriots in recent years, does that surprise us? He should be a top ten RB.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Brady - QB, New England Patriots Sunday, August 29, 9:10 AM EST
News Story: Brady completed 18 of 27 passes for 217 yards and 2 scores Saturday night. He also had an interception.
Fantasy Analysis: This looks like the type of production to expect from Brady during the regular season. He tends to slip into the late rounds of drafts and will make a very strong backup QB or a astarter if you need him.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ben Troupe - TE, Tennessee Titans Sunday, August 29, 8:55 AM EST
News Story: Rookie tight end Ben Troupe is picking up the pace after a slow start, but he's been losing weight in the process.
The 6-foot-4 Troupe said he arrived in Nashville weighing around 265 pounds. He said he's lost 11 or 12 pounds in the past few weeks, but hopes to play at 260.
''I'm not worried,'' Troupe said. ''My plan was to be 255-260, and I can get back up there. Around 245 would be dangerous, but during the season I should be able to get my weight back up.''
Fantasy Analysis: Troupe is projected to be the third tight end behind Erron Kinney and Shad Meier.
Source: Tennessean.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Keenan McCardell - WR, San Diego Chargers Sunday, August 29, 8:52 AM EST
News Story: Bucs general manager Bruce Allen on Saturday vehemently denied he turned down trade offers for receiver Keenan McCardell on draft day.
"Am I going to do this every time? No team has called," Allen said
Fantasy Analysis: This is a real ugly holdout that doesn't appear to have an end.
Source: Tampa Bay Online ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kevan Barlow - RB, San Francisco 49ers Sunday, August 29, 8:51 AM EST
News Story: Running back Kevan Barlow sustained a hip pointer against the Vikings and was described as doubtful for the game Thursday.
Erickson said Barlow, who led the 49ers last season with 1,024 rushing yards, should be back for the opener.
Fantasy Analysis: The plan is for Barlow to be back for the opener.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tim Rattay - QB, San Francisco 49ers Sunday, August 29, 8:49 AM EST
News Story: But quarterback Tim Rattay, who played in his first exhibition Friday after dealing with groin and forearm injuries, will likely see more time than usual on the field Thursday when the 49ers play their exhibition finale against San Diego. The 49ers begin the season Sept. 12 at home against the Atlanta Falcons.
``Tim is going to play more than he would,'' Erickson said. ``He just has got to play, which means the first offense will play a little bit more, too.''
Fantasy Analysis: The team needs to get Rattay playing time as he has not played much and when he has, it has not been good.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Philip Rivers - QB, San Diego Chargers Sunday, August 29, 8:47 AM EST
News Story: "Just before the opener we'll name a guy," Schottenheimer said yesterday after the Chargers practiced for the first time this summer in San Diego. "We could do it the week of that (game).
"I'm not trying to avoid the issue."
So is there any reason for his reluctance?
"No," Schottenheimer said. "Don't have to. We really don't have to make that decision right now."
Schottenheimer reiterated the competition remains open and he declined to name the frontrunner between veteran Drew Brees and rookie Philip Rivers.
Fantasy Analysis: Brees seems to have the edge over Rivers thus far but the Chargers paid Rivers a lot of money and he will be the starter eventually.
Source: San Diego Union Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kyle Turley - OL, St. Louis Rams Sunday, August 29, 8:46 AM EST
News Story: Rams coach Mike Martz announced that Turley had been placed on the injured reserve list, meaning that he'll be sidelined for the season.
Fantasy Analysis: This is not a surprise as Turley was expected to miss the season. Now the Rams need to get Orlando Pace back from his holdout.
Source: St. Louis Post Dispatch ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday, August 29, 8:45 AM EST
News Story: Inside linebacker Kendrell Bell, who has been nagged by a shoulder injury, returned to practice and did not appear to be limited. Outside linebacker Clark Haggans, who has recovered from his broken hand, also participated in every drill. Bell and Haggans did not play Thursday in the 27-21 victory against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fantasy Analysis: The Steelers could use two of their starting linebackers back in the lineup. Both players could play in the final preseason game.

Randle El, the team's No. 3 wide receiver, did not participate in a 90-minute practice yesterday morning at the Steelers' South Side training facility, but it was more of a precautionary measure.
Fantasy Analysis: Randle El is listed as day to day.

News Story: After catching one pass for 17 yards last season, he has caught touchdown passes of 34, 89 and 45 yards in three exhibitions.
Fantasy Analysis: Gabriel has the edge for the third receiving spot.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kerry Collins - QB, Oakland Raiders Sunday, August 29, 8:32 AM EST
News Story: For the third consecutive week, the backup delivered a highlight-reel pass to Doug Gabriel for a touchdown, this one from 45 yards. The Raiders say they don't have a quarterback controversy, but will they be able to stave one off if Collins keeps lighting up scoreboards?
Fantasy Analysis: Collins continues to push Rich Gannon for the starting job. Gannon played well also last night and will likely win the job.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ben Watson - TE, New England Patriots Sunday, August 29, 8:27 AM EST
News Story: Playing just 20 minutes from his home, Watson started and caught six passes for 49 yards.
"It felt great, finally, to get into the end zone," Watson said. "It was like [the touchdown pass] was coming in slow-motion."
The strong showing acted as a coming-out party of sorts for Watson, the 32d overall pick in April's NFL Draft, who missed the Patriots' first two weeks of training camp and first exhibition game while holding out.
Fantasy Analysis: Watson could end up the backup this season and possibly move into the starting lineup later this season.
Source: Providence Journal ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Bennett - RB, Minnesota Vikings Sunday, August 29, 8:22 AM EST
News Story: Anyone wondering why the Vikings haven't traded one of their running backs should understand now. The team learned Saturday that starter Michael Bennett will miss up to a month because of a sprained right knee, a surprising prognosis for an injury initially deemed minor in the aftermath of Friday's 23-10 preseason victory against San Francisco.
An MRI performed Saturday revealed a second-degree sprain of Bennett's medial collateral ligament, giving him virtually no chance to play in the Sept. 12 season opener against Dallas. Privately, team officials are bracing for him to miss the Sept. 20 game at Philadelphia as well and are hoping he can return Sept. 26 against Chicago.
Fantasy Analysis: Moe Williams gets the start and Mewelde Moore will backup Williams.
Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Verron Haynes - RB, Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday, August 29, 8:20 AM EST
News Story: Pittsburgh lost Verron Haynes for at least six weeks with a knee injury, depleting its group of runners.
Fantasy Analysis: Haynes was competing for the third down job with starter Duce Staley. Staley will win the job by default now.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Miami Dolphins Sunday, August 29, 8:17 AM EST
News Story: In the QB chase with Jay Fiedler, in which neither player had shown great consistency or even flashes of individual brilliance in two previous preseason games, Feeley seemed to pull ahead during Saturday night's game.
But that comes with the stipulation that coach Dave Wannstedt -- who seems intent on keeping the starter a super double secret until Miami's regular-season opener Sept. 12 -- would not admit Feeley pulled ahead.
''I don't think either quarterback has the advantage right now,'' Wannstedt said. ``I thought both quarterbacks played good.''
Fantasy Analysis: Your guess is as good as ours at this point. Feeley seems to have the edge but that is not a guarantee.
Source: Miami Herald ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Lawrence Tynes - K, Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, August 29, 8:15 AM EST
News Story: Tynes hit field goals from 28 and 48 yards but hit the left upright on another from 48.
Fantasy Analysis: Tynes is competing with Morten Andersen for the kicking job. It appears that Tynes has the edge going into the final preseason game.
Source: Kansas City Star ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dante Hall - WR, Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, August 29, 8:14 AM EST
News Story: Vermeil indicated Saturday that he'll spell Hall as a return man with Kennison and backup running back Larry Johnson. Kansas City's rookie receivers — Richard Smith and Samie Parker — have shown promise, but it's difficult to imagine the young guys surviving KC's treacherous schedule. Dante has to play at receiver.
Fantasy Analysis: Hall will start with Eddie Kennison. It sounds like Hall will give up some of his kick and punt returning duties, which will allow him to focus more on being a receiver.
Source: Kansas City Star ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc Boerigter - WR, Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, August 29, 8:11 AM EST
News Story: In the first quarter of Kansas City's 21-19 loss, the Chiefs' training staff helped receiver Marc Boerigter off the field. Boerigter had twisted his knee trying to make a play on the football. He couldn't put any pressure on his right leg. At halftime the Chiefs announced Boerigter had sprained his knee. Who knows what that means? Judging by the way he came off the field, I wouldn't be surprised if Boerigter suffered a season-ending injury.
Fantasy Analysis: The Chiefs are already without Johnnie Morton and now Boerigter is hurt. It is unknown how long Boerigter will be out but he won't be ready for the opener.
Source: Kansas City Star ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kyle Brady - TE, Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday, August 29, 8:05 AM EST
News Story: Tight end Kyle Brady is scheduled to have the injured finger on his right hand seen by a specialist this week and might not play against the Patriots.
Brady had two catches for 33 yards in the first quarter Friday night but was injured at the end of one of those grabs when he took a vicious hit from Packers defensive back Mark Roman.
Fantasy Analysis: Brady should be back in two weeks for the opener.
Source: Jacksonville Times Union ----------------------------------------------------------------------- John Henderson - DT, Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday, August 29, 8:02 AM EST
News Story: Despite walking off the field on crutches Friday night, defensive tackle John Henderson appears to have suffered only a bruise of his right shin and isn't likely to miss the final preseason game Thursday at New England.
Henderson also was taken off the field on a cart after practice earlier this month, only to return to workouts the next day.
Fantasy Analysis: Henderson is listed as day to day.

Running back James Mungro spent the second half in street clothes with a splint on his right wrist. X-rays were negative. Cornerback Nick Harper didn't play in the second half after suffering a shoulder injury.
Fantasy Analysis: The only injury that is serious is Pyatt's and we do not know the extent of that at this time.
Source: Indianapolis Star ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Eddie George - RB, Dallas Cowboys Sunday, August 29, 7:55 AM EST
News Story: Coach Bill Parcells said George will not be a workhorse in the backfield, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. “I told you when we got him he wasn’t going to take the whole load,” Parcells said. “We will figure it out as we go. We haven’t conclusively looked at that. I think Eddie will be in the mix. He will get some carries. I don’t think that is what he is used to getting. But it’s going to be something.”
Fantasy Analysis: George will share time with Julius Jones and Richie Anderson.

Fantasy Analysis: Brooks will not play until the opener in two weeks.

News Story: Left guard Eric Steinbach, working his way back after surgery on his left elbow July 28, re-injured the elbow and did not return. Defensive tackle John Thornton aggravated a heel injury and did not return.
Beckett suffered a blow to the head and did not return. In the second quarter, wide receiver Patrick Johnson was lost for the game with a hand injury later diagnosed as three broken bones in the back of his right hand. In the third quarter, linebacker Frank Chamberlin left with an arm injury. Running back Kenny Watson, who rushed for 33 yards on four carries, left the game with leg cramps.
Fantasy Analysis: The only injury that appears serious is Johnson's. It is unknown how much time he will miss.
Source: Cincinnati Enquirer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Bobby Wade - WR, Chicago Bears Sunday, August 29, 7:37 AM EST
News Story: Wide receiver Bobby Wade dropped two passes and muffed a punt return, prompting a question to coach Lovie Smith whether Wade was feeling added pressure in the absence of Marty Booker. "I don't think so. He dropped a few when Marty was here also," Smith said. "Receivers are going to drop some balls. He'll be fine."
Fantasy Analysis: Our question is how long will it take for Justin Gage to replace Wade in the starting lineup?
Source: Chicago Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- RW McQuarters - CB, Chicago Bears Sunday, August 29, 7:33 AM EST
News Story: Veteran Todd McMillon took over at right cornerback in the second quarter after McQuarters left with a slightly pulled right hamstring, the 11th such injury for the Bears so far this year.
The Bears took Saturday off and the team had no official update on the injury, but a source said an initial prognosis called for McQuarters to miss three weeks.
That timetable would bring McQuarters back in time to play the Packers on Sept. 19, though Brett Favre would sense a gimpy cornerback the way a shark smells blood in the water.
Fantasy Analysis: Veteran Todd McMillon will start for the injured McQuarters.
Source: Chicago Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- DeShaun Foster - RB, Carolina Panthers Sunday, August 29, 7:30 AM EST
News Story: And it wasn’t Foster’s 16 yards in 10 rushing attempts or his three catches for 33 yards that were the problem.
It was two lost fumbles in the middle of the game.
“I’ve just got to focus on keeping the football close to my chest and not lose it,” said Foster, whose penchant for fumbling at UCLA may have cost him a first-round draft pick in 2002; he was the Panthers’ second-round pick in that draft.
Foster now has unofficially lost as many fumbles this preseason in three games as he lost all last season — three. Foster fumbled twice in the preseason opener at Washington
Fantasy Analysis: The more Foster fumbles, the less time he will play. Right now, he is expected to see 5 to 10 carries per game backing up Stephen Davis.
Source: Gaston Gazette ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Willis McGahee - RB, Buffalo Bills Sunday, August 29, 7:25 AM EST
News Story: Willis McGahee, who got the start for an injured Travis Henry, received a heavy workload with 16 carries for 57 yards. But he fumbled once and botched a flea-flicker pitch to Bledsoe that lost 14 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: McGahee won't be the starter opening day unless Travis Henry is still hurt. We don't expect him to be but we will have to wait and see.
Source: Buffalo News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chester Taylor - RB, Baltimore Ravens Sunday, August 29, 7:23 AM EST
News Story: Chester Taylor's two touchdown runs were the primary highlights for what had been a lethargic offensive display at M&T Bank Stadium.
The third-year backup running back opened the second half by showing his speed on an 84-yard dash and then closed the Ravens' scoring in the fourth quarter by displaying his determination on a 10-yard run.
Fantasy Analysis: Taylor has solidified his job as the backup to Jamal Lewis. If you draft Lewis, you definitely want Taylor also.

News Story: From the first play from scrimmage in the Falcons' 37-10 preseason thumping of the visiting Cincinnati Bengals, Crumpler played a central role. Playing the first half along with the rest of the Falcons' starters, Crumpler caught a team-high four passes for 88 yards and a touchdown.
Fantasy Analysis: We expect Crumpler to have a huge year. Last night's game is one indication that we will be right.

News Story: Schaub completed 14 of 20 passes for 214 yards and three touchdowns, giving him six scoring passes (and 30 completions in 39 attempts with no interceptions) in the past two games.
Fantasy Analysis: Schaub has looked much better then Michael Vick during the preseason and will win the backup job. The Falcons feel good if something should ever happen to Vick.
Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Vick - QB, Atlanta Falcons Sunday, August 29, 7:16 AM EST
News Story: Vick didn't take a snap Saturday, a last-minute scratch because of a nagging right hamstring injury.
Fantasy Analysis: The injury is not serious and Vick will be back at practice this week.
Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Emmitt Smith - RB, Arizona Cardinals Sunday, August 29, 7:14 AM EST
News Story: Running back Emmitt Smith hasn't carried a big load in this preseason (12 carries for 49 yards before Saturday), but that is expected to change when the season starts. "Emmitt will be able to play a significant amount, probably more than he would have played had we had Marcel healthy," Green said. "The rest of it, we'll just see."
Fantasy Analysis: The reason is that the Cardinals don't have a solid backup behind him to take pressure off him.
Source: Arizona Central ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ifeanyi Ohalete - S, Arizona Cardinals Sunday, August 29, 7:13 AM EST

Source: azcardinals.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Travis Brown - QB, Indianapolis Colts Sunday, August 29, 7:12 AM EST
News Story: Brown injured his left knee, the second major injury to the Bills' quarterback corps this week. First-round pick J.P. Losman broke his left leg in practice Tuesday and is out indefinitely. Losman is expected to be Drew Bledsoe's eventual successor.
Brown, expected to back up Bledsoe this season, also was injured in the third quarter when defensive tackle Durrand Roundtree rushed in and hit him around the knee. Brown slapped the ground, then rolled over and stayed down for several minutes before trainers helped him onto a golf cart and took him off the field. Bledsoe walked over and gave Brown a hug before Brown was taken into the locker room.
Bills officials were uncertain how severe the injury was, but Brown believed it could be serious
Fantasy Analysis: The Bills are in trouble as they have already lost J.P. Losman to injury, now Brown is out. We would expect the Bills to sign a veteran to be the backup.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Lawyer Milloy - S, Buffalo Bills Sunday, August 29, 7:09 AM EST
News Story: Milloy broke his right forearm when he jarred the ball loose from Colts receiver Brandon Stokley in the third quarter. He is scheduled for surgery Sunday.
"I think my hand got caught in the turf," Milloy said. "I couldn't feel anything in my fingers. I just sat there and held my arm."
Bills officials did not say how much time Milloy would miss. He has started all but six games in a nine-year career that started with New England. Milloy said he hoped to return for the season-opener against Jacksonville.
Fantasy Analysis: Milloy thinks he will be back by the opener but that might be too optimistic. We will have to wait and see.

Fantasy Analysis: Fortunately, the injury is minor and Samuels will be back opening day.
Source: Washington Post ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Keenan McCardell - WR, San Diego Chargers Saturday, August 28, 9:52 AM EST
News Story: Receiver Keenan McCardell told a national radio audience on Friday that the Bucs turned down an opportunity to trade him on draft day.
Speaking on the Jim Rome Show, aired locally on WDAE-AM 620, McCardell said he knows "for a fact" that the Bucs had a chance to get a draft pick for him but balked at the chance although the team knew he had no intention of playing in Tampa under his current contract.
Fantasy Analysis: McCardell no longer wants to return to Tampa and accused coach Jon Gruden of going back on his promises.

News Story: Defensive end Grant Wistrom, who has been on the Seahawks' physically unable to perform list since the opening of training camp, is expected to practice tomorrow when the team resumes workouts at its Kirkland headquarters. Wistrom has a foot injury that kept him out of camp, but is scheduled to make his debut on Thursday when the Seahawks host Minnesota in their exhibition finale.
Fantasy Analysis: The Seahawks sure could use Wistrom in the starting lineup. He should be ready for opening day.
Source: Seattle Times ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tracy White - LB, Seattle Seahawks Saturday, August 28, 9:48 AM EST
News Story: OLB Tracy White won the first round in the competition to take over the injured Chad Brown's outside linebacker spot. White, a second-year player, led the team with five total tackles and made a fine play in the end zone to knock away a potential touchdown catch by Chargers TE Joshua Norman.
Fantasy Analysis: It looks like White will win the starting outside linebacker job.
Source: Seattle Times ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tim Rattay - QB, San Francisco 49ers Saturday, August 28, 9:46 AM EST
News Story: Because of a forearm injury that has sidelined him for most of training camp, Rattay's passes didn't have their normal zip, and he failed to lead the offense into scoring position.
His first three drives went three and out, and his best drive was derailed by a sack, a holding penalty and a near interception.
He finished the evening 7 of 10 for 51 yards before giving way to Brandon Doman late in the second quarter.
Fantasy Analysis: The injury has to be bothering him. If Rattay keeps this up, the 49ers offense will never score.

Source: NorthJersey.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LaMont Jordan - RB, New York Jets Saturday, August 28, 9:36 AM EST
News Story: During the week, Jets' backup running back LaMont Jordan had been working mostly with the second team, but with the first team as well. But Jordan, who has been in coach Herman Edwards' doghouse, was not the first running back to relieve starter Curtis Martin, who left the game after halftime.
Johnathan Reese ran the ball on the Jets' first five offensive plays of the second half, and gained 33 yards on the first four carries before being thrown for a 1-yard loss. Jordan then came in for one play, a 2-yard carry, before Reese returned. Jordan later lost a fumble at the Jets' 10, setting up a Giants' field goal.
Fantasy Analysis: It doesn't look like Jordan got out of the coach's doghouse. For now, we must assume that Reese is the backup.

Carter rushed 10 times for 78 yards, including a 38-yard run in the fourth quarter, the team's longest of the exhibition season.
Fantasy Analysis: Carter is battling veteran Lamar Smith for the No. 3 running back spot. Smith rushed three times for 17 yards and caught one pass for 9 yards.
Source: The Times Picayune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Aaron Elling - K, Minnesota Vikings Saturday, August 28, 9:28 AM EST
News Story: The status of placekicker Aaron Elling, on the other hand, might be critical. Elling missed an extra point and two of three field-goal attempts, for the first time carrying his shaky training camp onto the field for a preseason game.
Vikings coach Mike Tice admitted he is considering alternatives to Elling, including current competitor Dan Orner.
Fantasy Analysis: It sure sounds like Elling is going to get cut. Either Dan Orner will get the job or Tice could go to the free agent market.

News Story: Jaguars No.1 pick Reggie Williams responded quietly to his first NFL starting assignment.
Promoted ahead of veteran Troy Edwards earlier this week, Williams had one catch for 4 yards in the first half against the Packers and rarely had passes thrown in his direction.
Williams' lone highlight, a 15-yard catch over his shoulder on the sideline in the first half, was nullified by an illegal motion penalty.
Fantasy Analysis: Jimmy Smith is the #1 receiver and will get most of the work. However, Williams should score four or five touchdowns this year.

News Story: Iowa safety Bob Sanders finally has taken the first step into his professional career.
Marion Sanders told The Star on Friday his son -- the Indianapolis Colts' second-round pick and the 44th overall selection in the April draft -- had ended a 26-day holdout and agreed to terms with the team. "I guess it got done (Thursday) night," Sanders said. "He's pretty excited about it."
Fantasy Analysis: Sanders should be in camp Monday.
Source: Indianapolis Star ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Greg Jones - RB, Jacksonville Jaguars Saturday, August 28, 9:16 AM EST
News Story: Rookie Greg Jones replaced the injured Fred Taylor, gaining 79 yards on 18 carries.

Source: Green Bay News Chronicle ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kyle Brady - TE, Jacksonville Jaguars Saturday, August 28, 9:15 AM EST

Hawthorne showed little burst late in the first quarter when 35-year-old Jimmy Smith ran by him on the sideline to haul in a 38-yard pass from Leftwich, but the gain was nullified by penalty.
Fantasy Analysis: The Packers really need Mike McKenzie back. Teams will target Hawthorne and make life miserable for the Packers.
Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Garrison Hearst - RB, Denver Broncos Saturday, August 28, 9:06 AM EST
News Story: Hearst, who had been productive in limited preseason duty before Friday night, gained a yard on his only rushing attempt after entering the game briefly in the fourth quarter. Hearst, a 12-year veteran who has four 1,000-yard seasons on his résumé, came into Friday's game with 11 carries for 61 preseason yards, an impressive average of 5.5 yards a carry.
Fantasy Analysis: For now, Hearst moves into the backup role but that could change.
Source: Denver Post ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Jeb Putzier - TE, Denver Broncos Saturday, August 28, 9:05 AM EST
News Story: Third-year tight end Jeb Putzier seems to be emerging as a reliable target for Jake Plummer. The Idaho connection converted back-to-back third-and-5 situations on the Broncos' first scoring drive.
Putzier also made a 26-yard reception in the third quarter to set up Anderson's score.
Fantasy Analysis: It looks like Putzier has taken over the backup tight end job. Byron Chamberlain started last night but his hold on the job is tenuous.
Source: The Daily Camera ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tatum Bell - RB, Denver Broncos Saturday, August 28, 9:05 AM EST
News Story: Rookie running back Tatum Bell, making his NFL debut playing with a fractured right middle finger, dropped his first opportunity to touch the ball on a screen pass. He finished with only 23 yards on nine carries (2.6 per).
Fantasy Analysis: If Bell can learn the offense and run better, he could end up the backup.
Source: The Daily Camera ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Anderson - RB, Denver Broncos Saturday, August 28, 8:48 AM EST
News Story: It looks like Mike Anderson will be staying with the Broncos. Possibly on the injured reserve list.
The former rookie of the year had played like a starting running back again this preseason. And considering the fact that Anderson is currently a backup in Denver, speculation was that he could be dealt before the start of the regular season.
It appears to be a moot point now. Anderson sustained what was believed to be a serious groin injury covering a punt with 1:43 remaining in Denver's 31-17 victory over Houston on Friday night at Invesco Field.
Fantasy Analysis: Anderson will likely miss the entire season.

Sort of.
This is just a preseason game and does not count in the standings, but a start is a start and that's what McGahee will get because Travis Henry is sidelined with a rib injury.
Fantasy Analysis: We like McGahee and see him as a starter. However, he must get past Travis Henry, who has proved himself.

News Story: Philip Rivers, the fourth overall pick in this year's NFL draft who ended his holdout earlier this week, completed his first three passes for 72 yards. But the rookie misfired on his next seven throws, two of which were intercepted.
Fantasy Analysis: Rivers is not ready to be the starter mainly because he missed all the practice time during August. Drew Brees is expected to be the starter opening day.

News Story: Manning also was intercepted by Reggie Tongue in the third quarter, missed badly on several other passes and never looked comfortable in going 4-for-14 for 20 yards with two interceptions, two sacks and a fumble. His performance could cost him in the Giants' (1-2) QB derby, because Kurt Warner was 9-for-11 for 104 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: After last night's game you have to go with Warner as the starter. In time, Manning will be the starter but he didn't look ready.

Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ricky Williams - RB, Miami Dolphins Saturday, August 28, 8:26 AM EST
News Story: Although facing other obstacles toward a return to the NFL, a South Florida Sun-Sentinel source said Thursday that Ricky Williams was prepared earlier this week to rejoin the Miami Dolphins until the tailback learned the team had no interest in giving him a new contract.
Unhappy with an incentive-laden deal that would pay him $3.73 million in 2004, the source said Williams approached coach Dave Wannstedt and general manager Rick Spielman about the possibility of a return provided he received "a significant raise." Williams was told that wasn't a possibility, with another source adding Dolphins owner H. Wayne Huizenga would never agree to financially reward a player whose abrupt retirement in late July caused so much harm to the franchise.
Fantasy Analysis: As we keep telling you, Williams will not play this season. He could come back next year but we will have to wait and see then.

Fantasy Analysis: At some point, the Bears will consider this guy for regular season action. Thomas is the backup to Jones for now. Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LaMont Jordan - RB, New York Jets Friday, August 27, 10:29 PM EST
News Story: Jordan had 29 yards rushing on 11 attempts Friday against the Giants.
Fantasy Analysis: Jordan will tell you how good he is. The only problem is he will not show you when he gets the opportunity. He is a backup in NY and holds no fantasy value. The only reason you want this guy is for Curtis Martin insurance.

Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve McNair - QB, Tennessee Titans Friday, August 27, 7:05 AM EST
News Story: At first glance it wasn't a good sign — quarterback Steve McNair, his left ankle heavily taped, working with a trainer on a side field yesterday morning.
But by afternoon McNair was back on the practice field with his teammates, and he was no longer wearing the cumbersome brace he's been trying to shed for a month.
Fantasy Analysis: No need to worry, McNair is fine.
Source: Tennessean.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ben Troupe - TE, Tennessee Titans Friday, August 27, 7:04 AM EST
News Story: When the Titans drafted Troupe with their first pick this year, they counted on him being able to step in and contribute immediately. But Troupe has struggled in everything from route-running to intensity, and there are no signs he's improving. Don't be surprised if he's inactive for some early regular season games.
Fantasy Analysis: Don't expect much from Troupe this season. There are three other tight ends on the roster playing at a much higher level.
Source: Tennessean.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tyrone Calico - WR, Tennessee Titans Friday, August 27, 7:03 AM EST
News Story: Calico's route-running has improved and he's cut way down on drops. He also stands to benefit from the NFL's crackdown on illegal contact — if defenders can't slow the speedy Calico, he'll blow right past them.
Fantasy Analysis: Calico will be the team's third receiver. He should catch 25 to 30 passes and a couple touchdowns.
Source: Tennessean.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Charles Lee - WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, August 27, 7:00 AM EST
News Story: Receiver Charles Lee, who made a splash late last season as a replacement for Keyshawn Johnson, will make his preseason debut after missing the first two games with a hamstring injury.
Lee started the final five games in 2003 and caught five passes of 20 or more yards and two touchdowns. Now, he is fighting for a roster spot. "My goal is basically to come in and work hard and continue to focus and show these guys I can be a go-to receiver in this league," said the fifth-year player from UCF. "I want to do great things for this team."
Fantasy Analysis: Lee is battling for the fourth receiver spot.
Source: Tampa Bay Online ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tim Rattay - QB, San Francisco 49ers Friday, August 27, 6:57 AM EST
News Story: After struggling through groin and forearm injuries, Tim Rattay could finally make his debut as the 49ers' starting quarterback in today's exhibition game at Minnesota.
``I really want to play, and if it feels OK, then I'm going to try to go,'' Rattay said Thursday. ``I'm looking forward to getting out there, definitely.''
Fantasy Analysis: Erickson said Rattay's availability will be a game-time decision.
``There's a good chance he'll play, but I can't tell you that for sure,'' Erickson said. `` I've got to see Tim warm up and see how he throws.''
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LaDainian Tomlinson - RB, San Diego Chargers Friday, August 27, 6:55 AM EST
News Story: Running back LaDainian Tomlinson will play for the first time in the exhibition tonight against visiting Seattle. He has been limited in practice as well as held out of games to limit the possibility of injury.
So, it was with some concern that coaches and teammates watched when he remained on the turf for several seconds after falling awkwardly during the morning practice yesterday.
"I didn't expect to hit the ground like I did," Tomlinson said.
Fantasy Analysis: Tomlinson will play but don't expect more then a couple series.
Source: San Diego Union Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Philip Rivers - QB, San Diego Chargers Friday, August 27, 6:51 AM EST
News Story: The San Diego Chargers will get their first game look at quarterback Philip Rivers in an exhibition game against the Seattle Seahawks tonight.
Rivers, who missed 29 practices and two preseason contests in a contract dispute, will take the field in the second quarter and play into the third period in relief of starter Drew Brees.
Fantasy Analysis: It will be good to see what Rivers can do. We would not expect much as this is his first pro game.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Wayne Chrebet - WR, New York Jets Friday, August 27, 6:48 AM EST
News Story: There is growing concern in the organization that wide receiver Wayne Chrebet, who has fluid on his right knee and leg as the result of a quad injury, won't be ready for the season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 12 at Giants Stadium. He'll miss tonight's game against the Giants and has yet to play in the preseason.
Chrebet, who suffered a season-ending concussion last Nov. 12 against the Giants and battled postconcussion syndrome from then until early March, hurt his quad on August 16 and has yet to return to the practice field. The injury appears to be more serious than the Jets are letting on.
Fantasy Analysis: Chrebet is questionable for the opener. If he is unable to play, Johnathan Carter and Jerricho Cotchery will see additional playing time.

Source: Boston Herald ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Travis Minor - RB, Miami Dolphins Friday, August 27, 6:43 AM EST
News Story: Asked if the starting running back position is open, Wannstedt said, ``Right now, Travis Minor is the guy. But Sammy Morris has done [well], too. I see that position as running back by committee. We are going to play them all. You might even see Rob Konrad at tailback a little bit . . . maybe in short yardage.''
Fantasy Analysis: For now, Minor is the starter but that could change over the next week. The Dolphins are looking to pickup a veteran running back to replace him.
Source: Miami Herald ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ricky Williams - RB, Miami Dolphins Friday, August 27, 6:41 AM EST
News Story: Ricky Williams is living out of a tent in Australia and recently was bitten by some insect he described as a caterpillar, causing so much pain and swelling in his legs he could hardly walk for days. Against that backdrop, Williams called Dolphins general manager Rick Spielman and coach Dave Wannstedt this week to gauge their interest in letting him come back to the team this season.
The conversations did not go well from Williams' perspective. During his conversation with Spielman, Williams outlined the myriad reasons he had retired -- among them a desire to get a new contract because he felt underpaid, a desire to carry the ball less and a reluctance to play under new offensive coordinator Chris Foerster rather than his choice, quarterback coach Marc Trestman.
Fantasy Analysis: The bottom line is that Williams will not play for the Dolphins this year. It is possible, that he could play next year though.
Source: Miami Herald ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dallas Cowboys Friday, August 27, 6:37 AM EST
News Story: Bill Parcells does not like the term "running back by committee," preferring instead "division of labor."
Whatever he calls it, the Cowboys have it.
While Parcells has not spoken to Eddie George about how he plans to divide the carries, this is not going to be the "George Show" with cameos by Julius Jones and others.
"I told you when we got him he wasn't going to take the whole load," Parcells said. "We will figure it out as we go. We haven't conclusively looked at that. I think Eddie will be in the mix. He will get some carries. I don't think that is what he is used to getting. But it's going to be something."
Fantasy Analysis: We call it running back by committee and we know that it hurts both Eddie George and Julius Jones potential.
Source: Forth Worth Star Telegram ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kyle Brady - TE, Jacksonville Jaguars Friday, August 27, 6:36 AM EST
News Story: Veteran tight end Kyle Brady, who has started all but three games in his five-year Jaguars career, was reduced to working with the backups recently as a motivational ploy by the coaching staff after he dropped passes early in camp.
Brady appears to be back with the first unit and is expected to start tonight, but Del Rio said he isn't afraid to demote players that he feels aren't playing up to their potential.
"It won't be the last time [a starter was temporarily demoted], and it wasn't the first time," Del Rio said.
Fantasy Analysis: Brady has little to no value as most of his work is blocking vs. receiving.
Source: Jacksonville Times Union ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Reggie Williams - WR, Jacksonville Jaguars Friday, August 27, 6:34 AM EST
News Story: Reggie Williams' long-planned move into the Jaguars' starting lineup could soon be complete.
The team's No.1 draft pick will start at wide receiver in tonight's preseason game with Green Bay, and coach Jack Del Rio indicated Thursday that the move could be permanent if Williams plays well against the Packers and next week in New England.
Fantasy Analysis: Williams gets the start and might not ever leave the starting lineup now. If he has a good game tonight, we will upgrade him.

Fantasy Analysis: Davenport is listed as day to day.
Source: Green Bay News Chronicle ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Scott McBrien - QB, Green Bay Packers Friday, August 27, 6:31 AM EST
News Story: Scott McBrien has practiced so efficiently over the last two weeks that no longer would it be a shock if he beat out Tim Couch and Craig Nall to become the Green Bay Packers' No. 3 quarterback. In fact, with a good to very good performance Friday night in Jacksonville, McBrien might all but sew up a roster berth over the weak Couch and the mediocre Nall.
Fantasy Analysis: It sure looks like Couch is going to be a camp casualty sometime during the next two weeks.

News Story: Broncos coach Mike Shanahan also has said he would like to get veteran Garrison Hearst some carries, too, after Quentin Griffin works with the starters.
Fantasy Analysis: Hearst has not seen much playing time this preseason but should see more this week. He is the third team running back.
Source: Denver Post ----------------------------------------------------------------------- James Jackson - RB, Free Agent Friday, August 27, 6:25 AM EST
News Story: Teams still are in contact about trading for running back James Jackson, but a deal might not happen until after this weekend's games, if at all.
Davis told USA Today Wednesday, "We're seeking no lower than a third-round pick. . . . If offered a fourth-round pick [or lower], we're better off having him here helping us win games."
Fantasy Analysis: Jackson will be traded and the most likely candidate is Miami. They have an extra third round pick and will give it up next week.
Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chaun Thompson - LB, Cleveland Browns Friday, August 27, 6:23 AM EST
News Story: Linebacker Chaun Thompson has been cleared to return to practice full-time next week, coach Butch Davis said Wednesday.
"That's the doctor's guess-timation," Davis said. "But don't hold my feet to the fire. When they say, Coach, you can turn him loose. He's ready to go and start tackling,' that's when we'll start."
Fantasy Analysis: In the meantime, Ben Taylor has been holding down the job at strong-side linebacker.
Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Peter Warrick - WR, Cincinnati Bengals Friday, August 27, 6:16 AM EST
News Story: Peter Warrick participated in a limited way in practice Thursday.
The fifth-year wide receiver, working to come back from a December knee injury and surgery, did not wear a helmet or his practice jersey. But he did run some agility drills with the other receivers.
It remained unclear whether Warrick would make his preseason debut Saturday night at Atlanta against the Falcons.
Fantasy Analysis: We don't expect him to play Saturday but it is good to see him back on the field. He is expected to start opening day.
Source: Cincinnati Enquirer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tod McBride - CB, Atlanta Falcons Friday, August 27, 6:13 AM EST
News Story: Falcons coaches have been waiting a while to see cornerback Tod McBride in action, and they got a chance Thursday.
But while the six-year veteran cornerback practiced for one of the few times in several weeks after missing time because of knee tendinitis, he didn't sound so sure he'll play in Saturday night's preseason game against the Bengals.
"It felt good, it's getting a lot stronger," McBride said of his knee. "It's a matter of getting comfortable, gaining confidence in it."
Fantasy Analysis: DeAngelo Hall has taken over at cornerback for the injured McBride.

News Story: Gordon had surgery on his left foot a few weeks ago and appears to be ahead of schedule for his return. Martz said Gordon was thrilled to be doing any kind of work after dealing with the injury since his junior year at North Dakota State.

News Story: The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed veteran free agent placekicker Steve Christie to a contract. The 14-year veteran spent the previous three seasons with San Diego.
Christie, 36, has played for three different NFL teams including Tampa Bay, Buffalo and San Diego before signing with the Jaguars. The 6-0, 195-pound kicker was with the Chargers from 2001 to 2003, playing in 37 games and converting 42 of 57 field goals (73.7 percent). He missed 11 games in 2001 which are his only games missed in his career.

News Story: Texans head coach Dom Capers said the team’s starting running back would see his first action of the preseason Friday at Denver. Davis has been battling ankle injuries throughout training camp. Capers said he will play “two or three series.”
“We had a normal game week practice schedule so we were able to get him the work we thought we needed to get him,” Capers said Wednesday afternoon.
Fantasy Analysis: Davis will see his first game action tomorrow night.

News Story: Lions running back Olandis Gary could miss the entire 2004 season, if his shoulder ailment requires a long rehabilitation after surgery, according to head coach Steve Mariucci on Thursday.
The sixth-year pro from Georgia, who rushed for 384 yards with the Lions in 2003, has already been examined by doctors, Mariucci said.
"(Olandis) is having surgery on his shoulder. He hasn’t been on (Injured Reserve) yet. They’re talking about having surgery in South Carolina. He’s got some work that needs to be done. I’m not sure, there's a cyst, I guess," Mariucci said.
Fantasy Analysis: We suspect Gary will go in injured reserve and miss the season.

News Story: After a disappointing first two years in the NFL, Stevens has finally been healthy. It showed, as he worked himself into the starting lineup. Hasselbeck singled Stevens out as the most impressive player he saw during camp.
Fantasy Analysis: Stevens has moved ahead of Itula Mili on the depth chart and will be the starter opening day. We have already accounted for this in our rankings.

News Story: Although linebacker LaVar Arrington (left knee sprain) tried to persuade the team to allow him to play tomorrow against the St. Louis Rams, the medical staff will keep him out of his second straight exhibition game.
Fantasy Analysis: Arrington will be ready for the season opener on September 12.
Source: Washington Post ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Clinton Portis - RB, Washington Redskins Thursday, August 26, 7:26 AM EST
News Story: When Gibbs was asked for a ballpark figure for Portis's projected rushes this season, he responded: "I don't know. I'd say his tongue's going to be hanging out. Let's put it that way. I warned him."
Portis is expected to easily get the most rushing attempts in his career this season. However, after suffering injuries late last season, Portis must prove that he's sturdy enough to carry the load. Portis, who is 5 feet 11, 205 pounds, missed three games last year, including the final two of the regular season, because of knee and ankle injuries. In Portis's rookie season, he played every game, including 12 starts.
Fantasy Analysis: Portis will have over 300 carries and is currently the #3 rated running back.

News Story: Titans linebacker Brad Kassell has a partially torn Achilles tendon that will sideline him at least eight weeks and possibly the entire season.
Kassell, a key backup and special teams player, is the second Titans linebacker to suffer a significant injury during training camp. Starter Peter Sirmon is out for the season with a torn ACL.
Fantasy Analysis: Kassell provided depth at linebacker especially after Sirmon already went out with a season ending injury.
Source: Tennessean.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Joey Galloway - WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, August 26, 7:25 AM EST
News Story: Receiver Joey Galloway missed his third straight day of practice while resting a sore groin. With the receiver corps depleted with the absence of Keenan McCardell and Joe Jurevicius, the Bucs can ill-afford any complications with Galloway and are taking a cautious approach.
"Over the years when he's gone to camp, with the amount of running day after day, he's had some groin problems that require him to rest a few days," coach Jon Gruden said. "He's got it under control, and it didn't look like he had any lingering problems in Jacksonville the other night."
Fantasy Analysis: Galloway is listed as day to day.

News Story: Rookie wide receiver Rashaun Woods, the team's top draft pick, will make his 49ers debut in the Vikings game. He returned to practice this week after missing the first month of training camp because of a hamstring injury. Erickson said Woods will play most of the second half.
Fantasy Analysis: Woods will play with the second team offense. Much is expected from him but so far he has been a disappointment.

Fantasy Analysis: Moss will probably not play, waiting until the final preseason game to see some playing time.
Source: NorthJersey.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LaMont Jordan - RB, New York Jets Thursday, August 26, 7:05 AM EST
News Story: After missing three days of practice earlier this month, LaMont Jordan has been busy rehabbing.
Not his body, but his image. Specifically, rebuilding it in the eyes of Jets' coach Herman Edwards. That process seemingly wasn't going too well, at least until this week.
Jordan, who has backed up Curtis Martin for the past three seasons, entered the Jets' first two preseason games after reserve Johnathan Reese had played. Reese, first signed by the Jets as a rookie free agent in 2002, never has played in a regular-season NFL game.
Fantasy Analysis: A perturbed Jordan described himself as the team's "No. 3" running back after the Jets' win over Indianapolis on Saturday. However, he has gotten some practice work with the first team this week, and could be the first sub for Martin when the Jets face the Giants on Friday night.
"He must have moved up the charts all of a sudden again," a smiling Edwards said. "I wonder why.

News Story: Running back Onterrio Smith -- who faces a four-game suspension for violating the substance-abuse policy -- filed an appeal this week. A decision probably will come before the regular season begins.
Fantasy Analysis: Smith's appeal should be heard shortly. We expect for it to stand and for him to miss the first four games.
Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kenny Mixon - DE, Minnesota Vikings Thursday, August 26, 7:00 AM EST
News Story: The NFL rejected Kenny Mixon's appeal of a suspension for violating its substance-abuse program, leaving the Vikings defensive end ineligible for the first two games of the season.
Mixon has been aware of the possibility for more than a month but held out hope the penalty might be reduced or eliminated through the appeals process. He will not be paid for the two weeks of missed work, meaning he will forfeit $305,882. Mixon's base salary this season was scheduled to be $2.6 million.
Fantasy Analysis: Mixon will miss the first four games of the season due to the suspension.

News Story: Jaguars running back Fred Taylor had a message Wednesday for fantasy football owners everywhere: Calm down.
"You better believe I'm going to be back for the [regular-season] opener,'' Taylor said, referring to the Jaguars' Sunday, Sept. 12, game at Buffalo. "Wild horses couldn't hold me back from that one.''
Thanks to a sore left foot, Taylor and his status against the Bills have been in question since coach Jack Del Rio announced Monday that Taylor would miss Friday's preseason game against Green Bay and likely the exhibition finale next week at New England.
Fantasy Analysis: Booker moves to #2 and Freeman to #3. At this point, Freeman has little value and Thompson now has no value.

"I really have to test him out (Thursday) and see," Sherman said. "We'll bring him on the trip, and, hopefully, he'll be able to play. But, I can't honestly say he will or will not."

News Story: Running backs Kevin Jones and Artose Pinner are likely to get work in more than just the base two-back offensive formations as they progress in the exhibition season. Mariucci wants to get them familiar with the blocking responsibilities in the one-back sets, possibly beginning as soon as Saturday.
Fantasy Analysis: If one of the backs shows some good stuff this weekend, they will likely be the starter. For now Pinner is running with the first team but Jones is right behind him. Jones was impressive last week and is very close to becoming the starter.
Source: Detroit Free Press ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Detroit Lions Thursday, August 26, 6:51 AM EST
News Story: The Lions probably will have a new look when they line up their linebackers for the third exhibition game of the season Saturday at Baltimore.
Teddy Lehman, who has been backing up Earl Holmes at middle linebacker, will start at the strong side after four days of practice there.
Donte' Curry, who has been filling in for injured Boss Bailey at the strong-side linebacker, will play the weak side, where he hadn't practiced until Tuesday.
Holmes will start again in the middle, and the backups will be mostly players who have spent only two or three days in practice at Allen Park.
Fantasy Analysis: Some minor changes being made to the Lions defense.

News Story: Quentin Griffin and the first-team offense will play into the third quarter on Friday. Fans might have to wait until the fourth quarter to get their first glimpse at rookie Tatum Bell.
"It's a lot to evaluate," Shanahan said of the running back race, which also includes veterans Mike Anderson and Garrison Hearst. "So it's always nice to have that extra game."
Fantasy Analysis: Griffin will end up the starter opening day. It will be hard to get a good read on Bell with him playing with all backups.

News Story: Lenny Walls was expected to miss all of the preseason after suffering an ankle injury that required surgery the first week of training camp.
With two exhibition games remaining, the Broncos' starting right cornerback reports that he is ready to play. I'd say (Walls) is 100 percent," head coach Mike Shanahan said after Wednesday's practice. "But I'd say it's 99 percent he won't play (against Houston), and we'll get him ready for the Arizona game."
Fantasy Analysis: Look for Walls to play some in the final preseason game.
Source: The Daily Camera ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Billy Cundiff - K, Dallas Cowboys Thursday, August 26, 6:47 AM EST
News Story: It's becoming increasingly clear that kicker Billy Cundiff might lose his job to Matt Bryant if Cundiff doesn't improve.
Although Cundiff had a strong season a year ago, he has struggled some in training camp.
The Cowboys aren't forgetting what Cundiff did last year, but in the what-have-you-done-lately world of kickers, that was last year. Bryant, meanwhile, has been impressive since joining the team two weeks ago and has caught Bill Parcells' attention.
Parcells said Wednesday that Bryant reminds him of one of his all-time favorite kickers -- former New York Giants star Matt Bahr.
Fantasy Analysis: This is not good news for Cundiff. We suggest you avoid him at all costs.
Source: Forth Worth Star Telegram ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chad Eaton - DE, Dallas Cowboys Thursday, August 26, 6:45 AM EST
News Story: The Cowboys' search for help at defensive tackle led them to a familiar face Wednesday. The club signed eight-year veteran Chad Eaton, who played under coach Bill Parcells at New England.
Eaton signed a one-year contract for $660,000 before participating in practice with the Cowboys.
Fantasy Analysis: Eaton, 32, passed a physical before signing with the Cowboys. The next test for Eaton is his conditioning and getting reacclimated to the game. Eaton gives the Cowboys a proven option to play behind Leo Carson at nose tackle.
Source: Forth Worth Star Telegram ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Quincy Morgan - WR, Dallas Cowboys Thursday, August 26, 6:42 AM EST
News Story: Browns offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie is determined to dust off receiver Quincy Morgan, polish him up and put him back on display.
"Quincy is a big-play guy that's got to go make some plays," Robiskie said. "We've got to get him to touch the ball early and try to get him involved so he doesn't get down and frustrated and feel like he's not being used."
Fantasy Analysis: Morgan is expected to be the #1 wideout. Based on what we have seen in the preseason, Jeff Garcia has not been able to get the ball to either of the starters.
Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chicago Bears Thursday, August 26, 6:37 AM EST
News Story: During Shea's three years with the Chiefs, no wide receiver caught more passes in a season than the 56 Eddie Kennison had last year. Kennison also led Chiefs wide receivers in '02 with 53 receptions, a marked upgrade from '01 when Marvin "Snoop" Minnis led the group with 33.
In that same span, Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez and running back Priest Holmes averaged 70 receptions apiece for one of the highest-scoring teams in the NFL.
Moreover, the classic Don Coryell model, after which both the Bears' and Chiefs' offenses are styled, never relied on wide receivers John Jefferson and Charlie Joiner in the passing game as heavily as it did tight end Kellen Winslow and running back Chuck Muncie. In only two of the eight seasons Coryell coached in San Diego did a wide receiver—Joiner—lead the Chargers in receptions.
Fantasy Analysis: What this tells us is that starting receivers David Terrell and Bobby Wade's projections will need to come down and we will need to add more receptions to the tight end and running back.
Source: Chicago Sun Times ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ricky Williams - RB, Miami Dolphins Thursday, August 26, 6:36 AM EST
News Story: Retired running back Ricky Williams says he contacted the Miami Dolphins this week at the request of his agent but has no plans to rejoin the team anytime soon.
Williams didn't rule out a return but made it clear that given his contract and the state of the coaching staff, "It's not in my best interests to play football right now," he told the Miami Herald in a story published Wednesday night on the newpaper's Web site.
Williams has acknowledged testing positive for marijuana three times, which means he likely wouldn't be allowed to play this season, even if he decided to come out of retirement.
Fantasy Analysis: It sounds like Williams wants to play but not with the Dolphins or not with Wannstedt as coach. The saga continues.

News Story: appears doubtful that receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Bryant Johnson will play this preseason, but Green is hopeful both will be ready for the season opener Sept.12 in St. Louis.
Fitzgerald is still moving gingerly because of a sprained ankle. He's definitely out for Saturday's game against Oakland, and it's hard to imagine he will play in the preseason finale Sept.2 in Denver.
Johnson is moving better and has been running and cutting on the sidelines.
Fantasy Analysis: Neither player will play the next two games but the hope is that they will be ready for the opener. For now, Karl Williams and Kevin Kasper are the starters.

News Story: Supposedly endangered veteran tackle Barry Sims and rookie Robert Gallery, the heralded second overall choice in last April's draft, signed autographs for fans in the parking lot behind the Napa Valley Marriott after practice early Tuesday evening.
Sims and Gallery were standing shoulder to shoulder, fittingly, since they also will be side by side on the field in the next few days, and perhaps beyond.
Fantasy Analysis: Gallery is being moved to guard while Sims will start at left tackle.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Joey Galloway - WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wednesday, August 25, 6:21 PM EST
News Story: Wide receiver Joey Galloway, another key offseason acquisition for the offense, has played during the first two games but hasn’t practiced yet this week due to a mild groin strain. The Bucs will be cautious with their speed receiver, having already determined during training camp the impact he can make.
“There’s a good chance he won’t play in this game,” said Gruden. “He’s itching to go. I think if we had a regular-season game, without a doubt he would play. But we want to make sure the Rocket has all his nuts and bolts oiled up and ready to go for the season opener in Washington.”
Fantasy Analysis: We don't expect Galloway to play this weekend.
Source: Buccaneers.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Charlie Garner - RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wednesday, August 25, 6:18 PM EST
News Story: Running back Charlie Garner, who has been held out of the first two games due to a mild hamstring strain, will probably see his first game action as a Buccaneer on Saturday. He probably would not have missed any time with the injury during the regular season, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be in for a long time against the Dolphins.
“We think he can play,” said Gruden. “Look for him to play a little bit in the game Saturday night. Again, he’s not going to play a lot. He’s going to play a little bit, and he’ll be ready to go.”
Fantasy Analysis: Look for Garner to see playing time this weekend. He has not played this preseason and could be rusty.
Source: Buccaneers.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Jim Miller - QB, New England Patriots Wednesday, August 25, 6:14 PM EST
News Story: In late July, New England head coach Bill Belichick told us to forget about newly signed veteran quarterback Jim Miller for the duration of training camp. Miller was recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and not only wouldn't participate in camp, but would be an unknown among the backup quarterbacks. Just over a month and two preseason games later, the start of the regular season is now just two weeks away.
Miller has been throwing for several weeks, and his progress towards taking the field again appears to be closer than originally expected. Doctors told Miller it would be six to seven months before he could return following March surgery, which was delayed six weeks due to infection, but the 10-year veteran says he is currently "way ahead" of schedule.
"I think I am getting closer," Miller said. "I think from last week to this week, I've made great progress and I just hope it continues. Before I was kind of going and I plateaued a little bit, but the last week everything has picked up a little bit.
Fantasy Analysis: Miller is expected to be the teams third quarterback.
Source: Patriots.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tatum Bell - RB, Denver Broncos Wednesday, August 25, 6:09 PM EST
News Story: Tatum Bell believes that his healing right middle finger is only at "about 80-85 percent." But he believes that level of recovery will have him ready to make his Broncos debut Friday night for the team's preseason home opener against the Houston Texans. I'm just ready to get my feet wet," Bell said as he strolled off the field after Tuesday afternoon's practice session. "Practice is good tempo, but it's not the game tempo and game speed with contact. That's what I'm ready for now."
Added Head Coach Mike Shanahan: "He definitely will be in there to play."
Fantasy Analysis: We will get an idea how good Bell is. It appears that Quentin Griffin will get the starting job so Bell will be fighting for the backup job now.

News Story: Kurt Warner will start at quarterback for the New York Giants this week, although his competition with rookie Eli Manning for the regular-season job continues.
Coach Tom Coughlin announced on Wednesday that the two-time MVP will start Friday against the New York Jets, but that Manning, the No. 1 pick in the draft, will get about the same amount of snaps with the first-team offense.
''It's Kurt's turn,'' Coughlin said of the starting nod, adding that it was his plan all along to have the two quarterbacks alternate starting assignments in the first three preseason games.
Fantasy Analysis: In a mild surprise, Warner will get the start. We should know after this game, who the opening day starter will be.

News Story: All-Pro linebacker Julian Peterson will report to the San Francisco 49ers and sign a one-year contract with the team this afternoon, coach Dennis Erickson said Wednesday.
Peterson, designated by the team in February as its exclusive franchise player, has missed the first 28 days of training camp practices because of contract issues. Peterson and his agents have been looking for a deal that would make him one of the NFL's highest-paid defenders.
Peterson is expected to sign a $6.073 million offer tendered to him by the team to play this season. That figure represents the average of the NFL's five highest-paid players at his position.
Fantasy Analysis: Peterson should be in camp in time for Friday night's game.

News Story: Although Brian Kozlowski (two games) and Mike Sellers (one game) have been the preseason starters at H-back, rookie Chris Cooley still has a chance to win the starting job, Gibbs said. Cooley has looked solid, especially catching passes, with three receptions for 48 yards in limited opportunities. Sellers, who was listed on the first team to start training camp, has been bothered by an ankle injury.
Fantasy Analysis: We like Cooley and see him eventually winning the starting job. He is the best receiver of the three but needs to work on his blocking.
Source: Washington Post ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Keenan McCardell - WR, San Diego Chargers Wednesday, August 25, 7:23 AM EST
News Story: McCardell reiterated during an interview with Stuart Scott that he will not play for the Bucs without a new contract. He has two years remaining on a four-year deal that pays $2.5-million this season, but wants to be paid closer to the league average for team-leading receivers, about $4.5-million.
"I understand and appreciate where he's coming from," Gruden said. "At the same time I have no comment because I have other concerns right now with the players who are in camp."
Fantasy Analysis: McCardell remains out and it sounds like the Bucs are not going to budge.
Source: Tampa Bay Online ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chris Simms - QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wednesday, August 25, 7:19 AM EST
News Story: The competition continues, but Chris Simms will come off the bench ahead of Brian Griese during the Bucs third preseason game Saturday against the Dolphins.
Simms will relieve starter Brad Johnson, coach Jon Gruden said, and Griese will finish the game as the two compete for the No. 2 quarterback job.
A third-round draft pick by the Bucs in 2003, Simms has improved dramatically from his rookie season, when he could barely spit out the play in the huddle.
Fantasy Analysis: The Bucs have a lot invested in Simms and because of that and his elevated play, it sounds like he will win the backup job.
Source: Tampa Bay Online ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Philip Rivers - QB, San Diego Chargers Wednesday, August 25, 7:18 AM EST
News Story: Coach Marty Schottenheimer said Rivers could see action in Friday night's exhibition game against the Seattle Seahawks at Qualcomm Stadium. Schottenheimer said he would make a decision later in the week.
In the meantime, Rivers received solid marks from the men trying to defend his passes yesterday morning. When the defensive backs saw him step on the field, they joked that they'd finally be able to get some interceptions.
Fantasy Analysis: Rivers could play in the final two games but he will not be ready to start the opener. However, give him more time and he will be in the starting lineup.
Source: San Diego Union Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kyle Turley - OL, St. Louis Rams Wednesday, August 25, 7:15 AM EST
News Story: The outlook does not look promising for offensive tackle Kyle Turley playing for the Rams this season. Turley aggravated a back injury early in training camp and has not practiced since.
"He herniated the same disc," said Turley's agent, Tom Condon. "And he's got a bulging disc above that. So that's it. It's just a matter of what do you do about it."
Fantasy Analysis: This is not good news for the Rams. It now looks like Turley will miss the season. Will his loss have an affect on the offense? Did you see the game Monday night? The offense looked horrible. It will get better but losing a top lineman does hurt.
Source: St. Louis Post Dispatch ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kendrell Bell - LB, Pittsburgh Steelers Wednesday, August 25, 7:14 AM EST
News Story: Linebacker Kendrell Bell will miss his second consecutive exhibition game tomorrow night in Philadelphia with a shoulder injury.
"I'm sure it's very frustrating for him," coach Bill Cowher said. "We had a talk today about it.
"There's nothing you can do. He's trying to get out here. I know he's frustrated by the process but it's a long year. It's getting better but just not as quick as he would like it or any of us would like it. But its coming and he's got to fight through it."
Fantasy Analysis: Bell is expected to be ready for the season opener.
Source: Pittsburgh Post Gazette ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Amos Zereoue - RB, Oakland Raiders Wednesday, August 25, 7:12 AM EST
News Story: Running back Amos Zereoue, sidelined since banging his right knee against a helmet 10 days ago, returned to practice and is expected to play Saturday.
Zereoue, signed as a free agent after spending five years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, appeared to be the leading candidate to become the Raiders' third-down back.
But he hasn't had much of a chance to make his case since bruising his knee on his only carry in the Raiders' exhibition opener Aug. 14 against the 49ers.
Fantasy Analysis: Even if Zereoue wins the third down job, he has little value.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Charles Woodson - CB, Oakland Raiders Wednesday, August 25, 7:11 AM EST
News Story: The Raiders and cornerback Charles Woodson aren't any closer to ending their impasse, but Woodson will end his holdout and join his teammates sometime next week, his agent said Tuesday.
Woodson is working out twice a day in Houston and is eager to get back on the field, agent Carl Poston said.
``The longer it takes, the more it's eating at him,'' Poston said. ``He's in great shape.''
Fantasy Analysis: Woodson wanted the summer off and got it. He will be in camp and start opening day.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Wayne Chrebet - WR, New York Jets Wednesday, August 25, 7:09 AM EST
News Story: WR Wayne Chrebet,* who has missed time this training camp with hamstring, groin and now quad injuries, will miss Friday's game against the Giants and is expected to get only limited time in the preseason finale vs. the Eagles before the regular season begins.
Fantasy Analysis: Chrebet is expected to be ready for the season opener. He is projected as the teams third receiver.
Source: NJ.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- James McKnight - WR, New York Giants Wednesday, August 25, 7:07 AM EST

Source: Newsday ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Deuce McAllister - RB, New Orleans Saints Wednesday, August 25, 7:02 AM EST
News Story: The Saints running game has struggled with the loss of their fullback to Cleveland during the offseason.
Fantasy Analysis: The big question is how will this affect McAllister's production. Instead of a fullback blocking, the team will have an additional tight end or third receiver. It could have some affect but not much.
Source: The Times Picayune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Bryan Gilmore - WR, Miami Dolphins Wednesday, August 25, 7:00 AM EST
News Story: Gilmore was claimed off waivers by the Dolphins.
Fantasy Analysis: Gilmore has experience and with the depth problems in Miami he could make the team.
Source: Miami Herald ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Johnnie Morton - WR, Kansas City Chiefs Wednesday, August 25, 6:57 AM EST
News Story: The team is getting closer to making a decision regarding the status of wide receiver Johnnie Morton, who has been out since suffering an Achilles' tendon injury early in the second week of camp.
“In my own mind, I've written him off for the opener,” Vermeil said.
Fantasy Analysis: It sure sounds like Morton will not be ready for the opener. Marc Boerigter will get the start.
Source: Kansas City Star ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Greg Jones - RB, Jacksonville Jaguars Wednesday, August 25, 6:55 AM EST
News Story: Although newly signed running backs Frank Moreau and Robert Gillespie will play Friday, second-round pick Greg Jones is set to make his first NFL start in place of Taylor.
Backfield injuries resulted in Jones getting 18 carries last Friday against Tampa Bay, but the former Florida State player said that a starting assignment will give him a different feeling about the game.
"Even though it's the preseason and I got to play a lot last week, I'm still going to be nervous starting,'' said Jones, who also will get some snaps at fullback. "I'm still a rookie, so there's going to be some butterflies.''
Fantasy Analysis: With LaBrandon Toefield and Taylor injured, Jones has a chance to solidify the backup job.
Source: Jacksonville Times Union ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Andre Johnson - WR, Houston Texans Wednesday, August 25, 6:54 AM EST
News Story: Texans receiver Andre Johnson had a death in the family and will not accompany the Texans to Denver for Friday's preseason game against the Broncos.
"You'd always like to have Andre," Texans coach Dom Capers said. "He has a personal issue he has to tend to. Family always comes first. We'll miss him, but he'll be back in here and ready to go for the next week."
Fantasy Analysis: Johnson will be back at practice next week.
Source: Houston Chronicle ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Mark Roman - S, Green Bay Packers Wednesday, August 25, 6:53 AM EST
News Story: Coach Mike Sherman did everything but confirm the obvious Tuesday regarding Mark Roman's status as the starting strong safety.
Roman worked with the No. 1 defense Tuesday and Sherman said he would continue to work with the No. 1 defense for the rest of the week, which presumably includes Friday night in Jacksonville. He clearly has outplayed Marques Anderson in the first 31/2 weeks of camp.
"Mark has had two good games," Slowik said. "Just a matter of when the head coach feels it's time to make a decision."
Fantasy Analysis: Roman is the starter at safety and should be their opening day.
Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kenny Holmes - DE, Green Bay Packers Wednesday, August 25, 6:48 AM EST
News Story: For three weeks, the Green Bay Packers have attempted to fill the left pass-rushing end spot with one of their own. Now they will attempt to do it with someone else. The Packers reached an agreement Tuesday with veteran defensive end Kenny Holmes on a one-year, minimum-wage deal worth $660,000. Holmes, 30, has 38 1/2 sacks over a seven-year career.
Fantasy Analysis: Holmes will be a pass rusher in the third down package.
Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kellen Winslow - TE, Cleveland Browns Wednesday, August 25, 6:47 AM EST
News Story: Davis said Winslow is catching up.
"He's still behind, but he's on track with the passing game," Davis said. "The area he missed the most significant amount of work was the running game. It's going to continue to be a grind, because he has to work with the tackles, side by side with either Verba and [Ryan Tucker] and get the communication down. It's a work in progress."
Fantasy Analysis: It will take time but Winslow will be able to contribute when the season starts. Look for him to be a major contributor on offense.
Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Lee Suggs - RB, Cleveland Browns Wednesday, August 25, 6:46 AM EST
News Story: Despite Lee Suggs' two-TD performance against Detroit, Butch Davis said he won't name a starter yet. "That clearly won't happen until the first week of the season," he said.
Fantasy Analysis: There is no question in our mind that Suggs is the starter. William Green will backup Suggs.

News Story: The Bears have taken inquiries from teams about the availability of injured running back Anthony Thomas but have no plans to trade him, a team source said. "He's part of the plan," said Smith, who expects Thomas back within a week.
Fantasy Analysis: Thomas will not be traded and will remain the backup to Thomas Jones.
Source: Chicago Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Joe Odom - LB, Chicago Bears Wednesday, August 25, 6:37 AM EST
News Story: Joe Odom can empathize with Marcus Reese. Odom was in the midst of a stellar rookie season last October when a groin injury knocked him out of the starting lineup and onto injured reserve for the final six games.
Now Reese will relinquish his starting job at strong-side linebacker to Odom because of a pulled hamstring that coach Lovie Smith initially called minor. It turned out to be an injury that will sideline Reese four to six weeks, reopening the door to Odom.
Fantasy Analysis: Odom takes back the job he once has. He better do better with the defense or Reese will be the starter when he is healthy.
Source: Chicago Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Devard Darling - WR, Baltimore Ravens Wednesday, August 25, 6:34 AM EST
News Story: Kyle Boller still has accuracy issues (51.7 percent this preseason) but the second-year quarterback hasn't gotten too rattled.
The Ravens' coaching staff is pleased how Boller has stuck with his fundamentals in the pocket despite occasional breakdowns in pass protection and wrong route-running by his receivers.
"Kyle has progressed very, very well," Billick said.
Fantasy Analysis: Ravens receivers are not very valuable, especially the third or fourth ones. Still Darling is a nice receiver and could eventually crack the starting lineup.

The Ravens' coaching staff is pleased how Boller has stuck with his fundamentals in the pocket despite occasional breakdowns in pass protection and wrong route-running by his receivers.
"Kyle has progressed very, very well," Billick said.
Fantasy Analysis: We are not real impressed with Boller and would not want him as our starting quarterback.
Source: Baltimore Sun ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Baltimore Ravens Wednesday, August 25, 6:31 AM EST
News Story: Starting cornerback Chris McAlister and nickel back Deion Sanders are expected to report to the team for the final week of the preseason.
When talking about a recent conversation with Sanders, Billick spoke in a confident tone about the possibility of the 37-year-old defender ending his retirement to play for the Ravens.
"I'm excited about his perspective and where he was at mentally with it," Billick said. "He has put a lot of thought into this. That very much impressed me and sold me on the fact that this has some real validity to it."
Fantasy Analysis: The Ravens have a great defense, which will get much better next week.

Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution ----------------------------------------------------------------------- J.P. Losman - QB, Buffalo Bills Wednesday, August 25, 6:27 AM EST
News Story: Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback J.P. Losman broke his left leg during practice Tuesday and will be out indefinitely.
Losman's agent, Gary Wichard, told The Associated Press late Tuesday night that Losman is expected to be out eight to 12 weeks. Wichard said he was informed by Bills doctors that Losman's injury is similar to one sustained last season by Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick.
Vick was hurt Aug. 16 and didn't return until 3 1/2 months later.
Wichard added that the Bills will determine Wednesday whether Losman will require surgery. He doubted the team would place the quarterback on injured reserve, a move which would end Losman's season.
Fantasy Analysis: It looks like Losman will miss most of the season. Travis Brown moves into the backup role.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Javiar Collins - OL, Carolina Panthers Tuesday, August 24, 9:59 PM EST
News Story: The Dallas Cowboys traded offensive tackle Javiar Collins to Carolina on Tuesday for a conditional 2005 draft choice.
Collins was signed by the Cowboys as a free agent defensive tackle from Northwestern in 2001. He was moved to the offensive line midway through his rookie season.
In three seasons with the Cowboys, Collins played in 11 games nine at right tackle in 2002, including the game in which Emmitt Smith became the NFL's career rushing leader. He played just twice last season, primarily on special teams.
Fantasy Analysis: The Panthers have been searching for a right tackle since projected Adam Meadows retired just months after signing a five-year, $15 million contract. That left the Panthers with Matt Willig and Melvin Tuten at the position.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Eric Moulds - WR, Buffalo Bills Tuesday, August 24, 8:47 PM EST
News Story: Receiver Eric Moulds watched most of practice from the sideline, nursing a sore chest, which he hurt in Saturday's 16-15 preseason loss to Tennessee. Moulds said he expects to be back at practice on Wednesday.

News Story: Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback J.P. Losman hurt his left ankle during practice Tuesday and had to be carted off the field.
Bills president Tom Donahoe didn't update Losman's condition, as the player was still having tests a half-hour after practice ended. The injury initially appeared serious, as Losman was unable to put any weight on his injured leg as he was helped into a cart and driven to the locker room.
Fantasy Analysis: It is not know how serious the injury is. Once we know, we will let you know.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Joey Galloway - WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tuesday, August 24, 6:07 PM EST

Fantasy Analysis: Galloway is listed as day to day.
Source: Tampa Bay Online ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ken Dorsey - QB, San Francisco 49ers Tuesday, August 24, 6:00 PM EST
News Story: Tests on Dorsey revealed two protruding discs in his back that will make him doubtful for this week’s game against Minnesota. According to Dennis Erickson, Dorsey aggravated his back during Monday's practice session. The injury slows the considerable progress that Dorsey has made.
“He is way better than a year ago, no question about it. He’s made a lot of progress, mainly because he has had turns in practice," Erickson said. "A lot of people have protruding disks or whatever they are called. It’s just a matter of calming it down.”
The second-year quarterback will begin a rehabilitation program immediately and will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.
Fantasy Analysis: With Dorsey's likely absence from Friday's game at Minnesota and Rattay's availability in question, Cody Pickett and Brandon Doman will receive the bulk of action. The two are locked in a battle for the third position that Erickson says is too close to call at the moment.

Fantasy Analysis: Johnson is listed as day to day.
Source: Bengals.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Arizona Cardinals Tuesday, August 24, 5:52 PM EST
News Story: Green also said that the tests on Bryant Johnson’s foot yesterday showed good progress and he that he expects to have both Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald back for the first game of the regular season in St. Louis.
Fantasy Analysis: This is good news for a Cardinals team that is thin at receiver. Fitzgerald will likely start but Johnson won't since he has not practice this summer.
Source: azcardinals.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred McCrary - RB, Atlanta Falcons Tuesday, August 24, 5:50 PM EST
News Story: The New England Patriots released veteran fullback Fred McCrary on Tuesday.
Primarily a blocking back, the seven-year veteran joined New England before last season, starting three games before he was sidelined with a season-ending leg injury.
The 6-foot, 247-pound fullback was a sixth-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Eagles out of Mississippi State in 1995.
Fantasy Analysis: Not much of a loss for the Patriots. Patrick Pass takes over as the starting fullback.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Quincy Carter - QB, New York Jets Tuesday, August 24, 5:49 PM EST
News Story: Quarterback Quincy Carter signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets on Tuesday, three weeks after his surprising release by Dallas.
Carter, who started every game for the Cowboys last season, was released Aug. 4, before the team's first exhibition game. Reports said he failed a drug test and the NFL Players Association has filed a request for arbitration in the case.
Gene Upshaw, the union's executive director, told The Associated Press that the NFLPA will continue to press the case. ''We have to,'' he said, adding that part of the grievance involves potential salary loss to Carter.
Fantasy Analysis: With the Jets, Carter will back up Chad Pennington, giving the team an experienced second-stringer. Neither of the other two quarterbacks, second-year man Brooks Bollinger nor Ricky Ray, who played in the Canadian Football League, has ever taken an NFL snap.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Steven Jackson - RB, St. Louis Rams Tuesday, August 24, 7:34 AM EST
News Story: Jackson had 14 carries for 53 yards and a score. He also had 2 receptions for 6 yards.

Linebacker Mike Barrow, who has missed almost three weeks of workouts with knee tendinitis, participated in running drills for the first time in several sessions.
Fantasy Analysis: Barrow is back on the field but Arrington will be out for more time. Arrington should be ready when the season opens in three weeks.

Source: Tennessean.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Torry Holt - WR, St. Louis Rams Tuesday, August 24, 7:32 AM EST
News Story: Holt had 2 receptions for 16 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: Bulger tried to throw to him more often, but he was having trouble with control as the defense was all over him. Holt should still be a top 5 WR.

News Story: Faulk had 6 carries for 16 yards Monday night against the Chiefs. He also had a reception for 9 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: After all the dust settled, Faulk actually did get to play. He looked good. He certainly has lost a step, but Bulger will be looking for him out of the backfield a lot with the offensive line problems they are experiencing. Faulk is slipping in a lot of drafts. He is a GREAT 2nd rounf pick!

News Story: Bucs linebacker Derrick Brooks was a tad surly the past few days, but he was all smiles Monday after returning to practice for the first time in nearly two weeks.
"I'm very excited," he said.
Brooks' participation was limited, but the seven-time Pro Bowl selection hopes to play Saturday at home against the Dolphins.

Source: Seattle Times ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ken Lucas - CB, Seattle Seahawks Tuesday, August 24, 7:27 AM EST
News Story: All Ken Lucas wanted was a chance to prove his worth, a chance to hold on to the starting job at right cornerback, a chance to beat out proven free agent Bobby Taylor.
But now that Taylor is back practicing, the question lingers. Will the fourth-year cornerback start?
If the season started today, Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said Lucas would.
"Ken Lucas has had his best training camp ever," Holmgren said. "He is one of the more consistently good defensive players we've had in training camp. So right now, that position is his.
Fantasy Analysis: The key here is that the Seahawks have three good cornerbacks and are in much better position then they were a year ago.
Source: Seattle Times ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc Bulger - QB, St. Louis Rams Tuesday, August 24, 7:25 AM EST
News Story: Bulger completed 8 of 15 passes for 67 yards. He also had an interception and a fumble.
Fantasy Analysis: Bulger seemed very disoriented and had trouble making anything happen. The offensive line is likely the reason, so this may make you reconsider making him your top QB option.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Rashaun Woods - WR, San Francisco 49ers Tuesday, August 24, 7:25 AM EST
News Story: The rookie receiver was Rashaun Woods, who returned to practice Monday after a prolonged absence because of hamstring injuries. His 25-yard catch on a pass from Cody Pickett represented Woods' first memorable contribution since training camp began July 30. He has practiced only a few times.
Coach Dennis Erickson said he was glad to have Woods on the field. He tentatively plans to have the rookie from Oklahoma State make his exhibition debut Friday against the Minnesota Vikings.
Fantasy Analysis: When training camp started, the thought was that Woods would compete for a starting job and at a minimum win the #3 job. It looks like he will be #3 or #4 when the season starts.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dante Hall - WR, Kansas City Chiefs Tuesday, August 24, 7:23 AM EST
News Story: Hall had 3 receptions for 23 yards. He also had 3 punt returns, on of which was for 11 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: The stats do not tell the story. Hall looked good last night. Green seems to be looking for him. Hall is still a speedster and should have some good games. He is worth a 4th WR spot on your fantasy team.
Source: Fantasy Insights - Burton Meahl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tim Rattay - QB, San Francisco 49ers Tuesday, August 24, 7:22 AM EST
News Story: Whether Rattay starts against Minnesota will be determined later in the week, Coach Dennis Erickson said, but Monday's practice at least hinted that a return was possible. The quarterback completed 12 of 13 passes and ran without hesitation or limitation on his surgically repaired left groin.
His still achy forearm remains the hurdle. Because throwing long remains a concern, most of Rattay's passes were short and soft. Just four of his attempts sailed longer than 10 yards, and none traveled more than 20.
Fantasy Analysis: Rattay returned to practice and should play this weekend. He needs to go at least a week without getting injured again. We are still concerned about his durability.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc Boerigter - WR, Kansas City Chiefs Tuesday, August 24, 7:21 AM EST
News Story: Boerigter had 4 receptions for 50 yards on Monday night against the Rams.

News Story: Coach Bill Cowher has not made public his decision on which halfback will start for the Steelers this season, but Duce Staley will be his man. The only choice left is whether Staley also will handle the third-down chores when the Steelers open Sept. 12 against Oakland at Heinz Field.
It was this time a year ago that Cowher chose Amos Zereoue to start the season over Jerome Bettis based on the coach's "gut feeling." Cowher will wait until at least after the third exhibition game Thursday night in Philadelphia before he anoints Staley as the starter over Bettis.
Fantasy Analysis: The Steelers need a change and Staley is that change. Look for him to be the starter.

Fantasy Analysis: Look for McKnight to be cut shortly.
Source: NorthJersey.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Nate Burleson - WR, Minnesota Vikings Tuesday, August 24, 7:11 AM EST
News Story: Vikings receiver Marcus Robinson likely will miss the rest of the preseason because of a strained left hamstring, an injury that has allowed Nate Burleson to permanently supplant Robinson as the team's No. 2 receiver opposite Randy Moss.
The hamstring has bothered Robinson since the start of training camp, but an MRI test performed recently showed nothing other than a "mild, mild strain," coach Mike Tice said.
"I guess we need to let him rest until he gets it back to 100 percent," Tice said. "Marcus is now our No. 3 receiver when he gets healthy. Nate is our No. 2 guy, and he'll stay that way even when Marcus gets back. I can't have a guy that's hardly played be our No. 2 receiver. He's only been in our offense for a few months, and he needs time on the field to get in synch with everything. This is a complicated offense."
Fantasy Analysis: Burleson turns into a nice sleeper pick now while Robinson will be a disappointment. Burleson will be upgraded and Robinson downgraded.
Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Sammy Morris - RB, Miami Dolphins Tuesday, August 24, 7:10 AM EST
News Story: Running back Sammy Morris returned to practice after missing Saturday's game with a concussion. Wannstedt said Morris will play Saturday, but Travis Minor will remain the starter.
Fantasy Analysis: Morris is currently the backup to Minor. We see the Dolphins trading for another back so neither player will have much value.
Source: Miami Herald ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Jay Fiedler - QB, Miami Dolphins Tuesday, August 24, 7:07 AM EST
News Story: Quarterback Jay Fiedler likely will start Saturday's third exhibition game at Tampa Bay, but A.J. Feeley will receive the majority of the playing time, coach Dave Wannstedt said.
''I want to see A.J. more, to be honest with you,'' Wannstedt said. Wannstedt said Fiedler will play ''a couple series in the first quarter,'' and then Feeley will play the remainder of the first half and the third quarter.
''That way, Jay gets a little bit of work and we get a real good look at A.J.,'' Wannstedt said.
Feeley started the second exhibition game after Fiedler started the first. Wannstedt has not said when he will name a starter.
Fantasy Analysis: It's looking more and more like Fiedler will be the starter opening day. A final decision will be made next week.
Source: Miami Herald ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LaBrandon Toefield - RB, Jacksonville Jaguars Tuesday, August 24, 7:06 AM EST
News Story: Backup running back LaBrandon Toefield has been sidelined since early August by a high ankle sprain, and his lengthy absence is affecting his chances of keeping the third-down role he earned at the end of last season.
"[Toefield] needs to get back and get to work," Del Rio said Monday after the Jaguars welcomed the return to practice of two other injured running backs, Joe Smith and David Allen.
Del Rio said Toefield did some running Monday morning and could return to practice later this week. But if Toefield thinks his strong showing late in 2003 guaranteed him a spot this year, Del Rio said he is mistaken.
Fantasy Analysis: Toefield needs to get back on the field quickly or he could possibly lose his backup job. We are concerned that he is not healthy and are downgrading him.
Source: Jacksonville Times Union ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred Taylor - RB, Jacksonville Jaguars Tuesday, August 24, 7:05 AM EST
News Story: sprained foot will cause Fred Taylor to miss the Jaguars' preseason game Friday night against Green Bay and possibly the final exhibition contest next week at New England.
Taylor, who has played in a career-best 32 consecutive regular-season games, was held out of practice Monday night and likely won't practice the rest of the week, coach Jack Del Rio said.
Fantasy Analysis: Del Rio said the injury is minor and stressed that the Jaguars are merely being cautious with their franchise running back, who ran for a career-high 1,572 yards last season. Del Rio said Taylor also might miss the Thursday, Sept.2, preseason finale at New England as a precaution.
Source: Jacksonville Times Union ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Desmond Clark - TE, Chicago Bears Tuesday, August 24, 7:03 AM EST
News Story: Tight end Dallas Clark (ankle) missed last week's game but is expected to be ready for this week's game.
Fantasy Analysis: Clark's injury is minor and he will be back at practice this week.
Source: Indianapolis Star ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dominic Rhodes - RB, Indianapolis Colts Tuesday, August 24, 7:02 AM EST
News Story: Backup running back Dominic Rhodes has missed the first two preseason games while nursing a minor groin injury. He went through Monday's light workout, expects to practice again today and anticipates a heavy workload Saturday night against Buffalo.
Dungy mentioned the plan is for Rhodes to get approximately 12 carries against the Bills.
Fantasy Analysis: As the backup to Edgerrin James, Rhodes won't see much playing time but he needs to be healthy for the start of the season.
Source: Indianapolis Star ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Gary Walker - DE, Houston Texans Tuesday, August 24, 7:00 AM EST
News Story: The Texans got a bit of a scare Monday when two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Gary Walker went down with a groin injury during the team portion of the indoor workout.
Walker had to be helped off the field by trainers, and he was examined on the field before leaving practice early. The 31-year-old defensive end underwent an MRI exam Monday evening, but the results were not immediately available.
"Gary had a little tightness in his groin, so they took him in to check it out," Texans coach Dom Capers said. "It was just out here in team. He turned and cut, and it tightened up on him."
Fantasy Analysis: There's a chance nose tackle Seth Payne, who is recovering from knee surgery, will play against the Broncos.
If Payne doesn't start at Denver, DeLoach will make his third consecutive start at nose tackle, making Sears the obvious choice at left defensive end if Walker can't play.
Source: Houston Chronicle ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Domanick Davis - RB, Houston Texans Tuesday, August 24, 6:58 AM EST
News Story: Domanick Davis laughed at the notion but said he wouldn't be surprised if some of his teammates believe he's just trying to avoid practice.
He has yet to experience a true training camp. For the past two years, injuries have sidelined him: a broken hand last year, an ailing left ankle this year.
But Davis hardly feels lucky for missing the workouts. In a brief career already riddled with injuries, Davis' latest setback came two weeks ago because of a sore ankle. He returned to practice Monday after missing two preseason games.
Fantasy Analysis: Coaches were pleased with what they saw Monday and are hopeful Davis will be able to play at Denver on Friday night.
"He looked pretty good to me," coach Dom Capers said. "He took all the reps he was supposed to take, and he wanted to take a little bit more. He moved well and cut well, and we'll see how he feels when he comes in tomorrow morning. If he's totally healthy, he'll go (against Denver)."
Source: Houston Chronicle ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Scotty Anderson - WR, Free Agent Tuesday, August 24, 6:55 AM EST
News Story: Wide receiver Scotty Anderson, who got more attention for his off-field misadventures than for his on-field contributions, was released by the Lions on Monday.
Fantasy Analysis: This is not much of a surprise with all the depth in the receiving corps.
Source: Detroit Free Press ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dan Campbell - TE, Dallas Cowboys Tuesday, August 24, 6:54 AM EST
News Story: Tight end Dan Campbell, who didn't play against Oakland because of a groin strain, returned to practice Monday.
Fantasy Analysis: Campbell is back in his starting tight end spot. Remember, even though he starts, Jason Witten is the more valuable player.
Source: Forth Worth Star Telegram ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pete Hunter - CB, Dallas Cowboys Tuesday, August 24, 6:51 AM EST
News Story: If the season started today, Parcells said Pete Hunter would be his starting right cornerback.
The position battle isn't over. Rookie Bruce Thornton will get more of a look at the position this week in practice and Monday against the Titans.
Parcells also said Jemeel Powell, who started against the Oakland Raiders, should not be written off just because he gave up an 89-yard touchdown reception to Doug Gabriel.
Fantasy Analysis: These are not glowing remarks by Parcells. It sure sounds like whoever plays the best over the next two games will be the starter. For now, it is Hunter.
Source: Forth Worth Star Telegram ----------------------------------------------------------------------- James Jackson - RB, Free Agent Tuesday, August 24, 6:49 AM EST
News Story: The Browns are fielding calls from at least four NFL teams interested in trading for running back James Jackson, but unless the price is right, the Browns will hang on to him, according to league sources.
The teams that have called about the fourth-year pro include Miami, Minnesota, Arizona and Philadelphia. The Dolphins have inquired about Jackson to replace Ricky Williams, but they are believed to be interested in surrendering only a later-round pick, preferably no higher than a fifth.
Fantasy Analysis: Look for the Dolphins to deal their 3rd round choice to the Browns for Jackson. If this happens, Jackson could step into the starting lineup right away. We will upgrade him on our rankings for this possibility.
Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Rudi Johnson - RB, Cincinnati Bengals Tuesday, August 24, 6:47 AM EST

News Story: Running back Anthony Thomas lay on the floor in front of his locker Monday morning perusing the classified ads. "I'm looking for a job," Thomas cracked.

Source: Cincinnati Enquirer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Travis Fisher - CB, St. Louis Rams Tuesday, August 24, 6:41 AM EST
News Story: Rams starting cornerback Travis Fisher, who tied for the NFL lead with 205 yards in interception returns in 2003, left with a broken arm and most likely is lost for the season.
Fantasy Analysis: This is a big loss for the Rams. Teams need depth at cornerback and losing your starter is a big one. DeJuan Groce will start in his place.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Cliff Russell - WR, Cincinnati Bengals Tuesday, August 24, 6:40 AM EST
News Story: Receiver Cliff Russell practiced for the first time this training camp. He had missed the first three weeks because of a hamstring injury.
Fantasy Analysis: Russell was going to compete for the fourth or fifth receiver spot but with all the missed time, he will have a difficult time making the team.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Quincy Carter - QB, New York Jets Tuesday, August 24, 6:39 AM EST
News Story: Free-agent quarterback Quincy Carter arrived in New York last night and is scheduled to meet today with team officials, sources told the New York Daily News.
Fantasy Analysis: The Jets need a veteran backup and feel Carter could be their man. If Carter is signed, Brooks Bollinger could be cut.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Philip Rivers - QB, San Diego Chargers Tuesday, August 24, 6:39 AM EST
News Story: Rookie quarterback Philip Rivers ended his holdout, agreeing to terms on six-year contract with the San Diego Chargers last night.
The contract will pay Rivers $40.5 million, including a $14.25 million signing bonus. He can earn $10 million more in incentives.
Fantasy Analysis: Rivers, who missed four weeks of training camp and two preseason games, is unlikely to get the starting job immediately. In his absence, third-year veteran Drew Brees has performed well and likely will lead the team at the start of the season.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Deion Sanders - CB, Baltimore Ravens Tuesday, August 24, 6:37 AM EST
News Story: Coach Brian Billick confirmed that the Ravens are expecting a final decision from Deion Sanders by Monday on whether the former Pro Bowl cornerback will end his retirement and play for the team this season.
If Sanders is coming back, Ravens officials want him to be ready by the Sept. 12 season opener in Cleveland. That means the 37-year-old defender would need to report by next week, before the team plays its final preseason game Sept. 2.
Fantasy Analysis: We should know more by next week. Our guess is that Sanders will come out of retirement and play for the Ravens as their nickle back.
Source: Baltimore Sun ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Corey Fuller - CB, Baltimore Ravens Tuesday, August 24, 6:37 AM EST
News Story: Cornerback Corey Fuller's trial on charges of operating a gambling house and using a gun in the commission of a felony has been postponed. It was originally scheduled for yesterday. A new date has not been set
Fantasy Analysis: It will be interesting to see if Fuller is convicted. The Ravens could be in trouble at cornerback.
Source: Baltimore Sun ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Terrell Suggs - LB, Baltimore Ravens Tuesday, August 24, 6:33 AM EST
News Story: If the Ravens want to stay on the road to the Super Bowl, they probably don't want Terrell Suggs driving.
The team's outside linebacker was involved in his second car accident in nine months when he collided with another vehicle yesterday while driving back from morning practice.
Fantasy Analysis: Suggs got a cut above his eye from yesterday's accident and had soreness in his chest after the air bags were released. He sat out yesterday's afternoon practice and declined to comment when asked about the incident.
Source: Baltimore Sun ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Bryant Johnson - WR, Arizona Cardinals Tuesday, August 24, 6:32 AM EST
News Story: Receiver Bryant Johnson has been out with a stress fracture in his foot and doctors are determining his progress
Fantasy Analysis: Johnson has missed the entire camp and probably won't be back for at least another week or two. Karl Williams and Kevin Kasper are the starters with all the injuries.
Source: azcardinals.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Arizona Cardinals Tuesday, August 24, 6:30 AM EST
News Story: The depth chart at linebacker also has been shuffled. The starters remain the same, but Gerald Hayes has been moved from strong outside linebacker to middle linebacker, where he'll back up Ronald McKinnon.
LeVar Woods has moved from weak outside linebacker to the strong side, where he backs up Karlos Dansby. And James Darling moves from the middle to the weak side, where he backs up Raynoch Thompson.
Fantasy Analysis: Not big changes on defense but they could have an affect on individual player rankings.
Source: azcardinals.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Arizona Cardinals Tuesday, August 24, 6:28 AM EST
News Story: Only five receivers were in uniform Monday, and the starters were Karl Williams and Kevin Kasper.
Two receivers, Bryan Gilmore and Jason McAddley, were cut. Gilmore started Saturday against San Diego.
That means that Fabian Davis and Chris Collins, who were claimed on waivers in the past two weeks, will get more playing time.
"The only way we're going to find out what Fabian Davis can do and Chris Collins can do is they have to get a lot of (repetitions)," Green said. "They have to play a lot."
Fantasy Analysis: Interesting seeing cuts this early but Gilmore and McAddley are gone. Not big names here and neither will affect any fantasy players.
Source: azcardinals.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Marcus Robinson - WR, Minnesota Vikings Monday, August 23, 8:57 PM EST
News Story: Minnesota receiver Marcus Robinson will miss the Vikings' two remaining preseason games to rest his problematic left hamstring.
Robinson, who in March signed a four-year, $9.4 million deal to be the Vikings' No. 2 receiver, left practice Monday morning after tweaking the hamstring.
The same injury, officially diagnosed as a strain, forced him to miss nearly half of the team's padded practices in training camp, as well as Saturday's preseason loss in Atlanta.
After Robinson felt another twinge Monday, the training staff and head coach Mike Tice agreed it would be best to rest him until the regular season. With Robinson out, second-year receiver Nate Burleson moves closer to claiming the No. 2 spot.
Fantasy Analysis: We don't like this development. It sure sounds like Robinson is not going to get healthy and Burleson is going to take over the starting job. For now, Robinson is #2 but we are skeptical he will keep that.

Source: Giants.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Peter Warrick - WR, Cincinnati Bengals Monday, August 23, 7:55 PM EST
News Story: Head coach Marvin Lewis says wide receiver Peter Warrick could play right now if the Bengals needed him. But since Saturday night’s third preseason game in Atlanta doesn’t count, he may not play again.
“Possibly,” said Lewis of Warrick playing in his first game against the Falcons. “But let’s make sure we get him as strong as we can and get through the wear and tear of the season.”
Fantasy Analysis: Warrick is expected to be ready for the start of the season.
Source: Bengals.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Travis Henry - RB, Buffalo Bills Monday, August 23, 7:53 PM EST
News Story: Starting running back Travis Henry, who left Saturday's game with bruised ribs, watched from the sidelines Monday. Although Head Coach Mike Mularkey didn't officially rule out Henry playing this weekend at Indianapolis, it is unlikely the fourth-year back will play.
"I'm a little sore, but that's expected," said Henry. "It hasn't been 48 hours yet so I'm just looking at it day-to-day."
Fantasy Analysis: Look for Willis McGahee to start this weekend's game. Henry should be back in practice next week.
Source: BuffaloBills.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ifeanyi Ohalete - S, Arizona Cardinals Monday, August 23, 7:50 PM EST
News Story: While Green was obviously disappointed in Saturday’s outcome, he liked the play of Ifeanyi Ohalete, a safety the Cardinals claimed off waivers from the Redskins last week, to name him the starter over Quentin Harris. Ohalete had only two practices with the team before seeing live action against the Vikes.
“It has been a real good transition,” said Ohalete. “I’m just looking forward to coming in here and making plays and trying to help this team out and do whatever the coach asks me to do. If that means playing a lot, than I’m going to try to play a lot and play well.”
Fantasy Analysis: It didn't take long for Ohalete to take over as starter at safety.
Source: azcardinals.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Matt Birk - C, Minnesota Vikings Monday, August 23, 7:47 PM EST
News Story: Pro Bowl center Matt Birk was over the ball Monday for the first time since the second day of training camp.
Birk, who had surgery Aug. 4 to repair a hernia, was expected to need three to five weeks to recover. He started running last week, and said he hopes to be in the lineup for the Vikings' last preseason game Sept. 2 against Seattle.
''It's getting better,'' Birk said. ''Hopefully next week I can start doing some real stuff.''
Fantasy Analysis: The Vikings offense will run better with starter Birk back in the lineup.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Carlos Emmons - LB, New York Giants Monday, August 23, 7:46 PM EST
News Story: Linebacker Carlos Emmons returned to practice after spending more than two weeks on the sidelines because of pain in the leg he broke last season.
''It's definitely a relief,'' Emmons said. ''I have to work on things.''
The Giants signed the former Philadelphia Eagle as a free agent in the offseason, thinking he would fill the spot that opened when Brandon Short left to sign with Carolina.
Fantasy Analysis: Emmons is expected to provide depth at linebacker for the Giants.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Aaron Brooks - QB, New Orleans Saints Monday, August 23, 7:45 PM EST
News Story: New Orleans quarterback Aaron Brooks, who missed the first preseason game, will probably miss the third as well. He re-injured a ligament in the top of his thigh against the Packers. On Monday he was sore and back where he was when he first hurt himself.
Brooks said he doubted he would do much this week in practice or in the game.
''I think it's best for me to rest it and try to get the treatment I need so I can start getting ready for Seattle,'' Brooks said. ''That's right around the corner.''
Fantasy Analysis: Brooks probably won't see any significant practice time until next week.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Flynn - C, Baltimore Ravens Monday, August 23, 7:44 PM EST
News Story: Baltimore Ravens center Mike Flynn will be sidelined six to eight weeks after suffering a fractured clavicle in practice Monday.
A seven-year veteran, Flynn had missed just one game over the last four seasons. He started all 16 games last season as part of an offensive line that helped Jamal Lewis rush for over 2,000 yards.
Fantasy Analysis: Casey Rabach, who has started seven games in his three-year career, will replace Flynn at center.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chad Brown - LB, Seattle Seahawks Monday, August 23, 7:42 PM EST
News Story: The Seattle Seahawks lost three-time Pro Bowl linebacker Chad Brown on Monday when he broke his left leg during practice. Coach Mike Holmgren said he expects Brown to miss at least four regular-season games after he was hurt getting his feet tangled with tight end Itula Mili during a practice drill.
Fantasy Analysis: With reserve linebacker D.D. Lewis still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, Seattle may have to import help at the position.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Vick - QB, Atlanta Falcons Monday, August 23, 7:42 PM EST
News Story: Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick missed practice Monday because of tightness in his right hamstring.
Coach Jim Mora indicated Vick might return Tuesday and should be ready when Atlanta hosts the Cincinnati Bengals in an exhibition game Saturday night.
''He's so intent on being 100 percent for San Francisco that he's being very, very careful about everything,'' Mora said, referring to the season opener Sept. 12 against the 49ers. ''I don't think it's anything but a little tightness in his hammy.''
Fantasy Analysis: Vick is listed as day to day.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Sean Taylor - S, Washington Redskins Monday, August 23, 7:09 AM EST
News Story: Rookie safety Sean Taylor, who made another big play by causing and recovering a fumble against the Dolphins, will start again Friday, Williams said. While it seems all but certain Taylor will start the regular season opener, Williams said that is not a given. "He's got a lot of work to do on some of the small things behind the scenes," Williams said.
Fantasy Analysis: Taylor is in the starting lineup and that will not change.
Source: Washington Post ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Patrick Ramsey - QB, Washington Redskins Monday, August 23, 7:07 AM EST
News Story: Redskins Coach Joe Gibbs said yesterday that he will stick with his plan to start quarterback Patrick Ramsey on Friday night in St. Louis, completing his rotation of Ramsey and Mark Brunell. Brunell, who started Saturday's 17-0 win in Miami and performed well, is viewed by many as the most likely starter in the regular season opener, but Gibbs said no decision has been made.
Fantasy Analysis: Gibbs said he has no time frame on when he will settle on a starter. "It's whenever I feel most comfortable," he said.
Overall, Gibbs said he plans to use much of the first team in both remaining preseason games, whereas most teams traditionally rest their veterans in the finale.

News Story: Julian Peterson might be planning to end his holdout.
Although the team hasn't had any recent contact with the Pro Bowl linebacker, Erickson said he's aware of the rumors and hopes Peterson validates them by reporting to the team as soon as this week.
``Really, at this point, it would be in the best interest of both sides,'' Erickson said. ``The earlier he gets in, the better off he is, and the better off we are.''
Fantasy Analysis: Look for Peterson to get back in camp sometime over the next week. He is the best defensive player on the team and the 49ers need him.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tim Rattay - QB, San Francisco 49ers Monday, August 23, 7:01 AM EST
News Story: The soreness in quarterback Tim Rattay's right forearm has eased, and he might be able to resume his normal practice regimen today.
``He threw up to 30 yards without any pain,'' Erickson said, referring to a series of throws by Rattay before Saturday's game. ``We're just going to have to kind of work him and go by how he feels. We're playing it by ear.''
Fantasy Analysis: Rattay could be at practice as early as today. He will have to come back slowly as not to hurt his arm again.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tony Parrish - S, San Francisco 49ers Monday, August 23, 6:58 AM EST
News Story: Strong safety Tony Parrish is expected to miss the 49ers' last two exhibition games after an MRI exam revealed a muscle tear in his right calf, Coach Dennis Erickson said Sunday.
Erickson said he's hopeful that Parrish, who tied for the NFL lead last season with a career-high nine interceptions, will be ready to return by Sept. 12, when the 49ers host Atlanta in the season opener.
The 49ers are not sure how Parrish sustained the injury, but it may have begun when he was kicked in the lower leg by a teammate during practice last week.
Fantasy Analysis: Rookie Keith Lewis, a sixth-round draft pick from Oregon, is expected to start in Parrish's place Friday, when the 49ers visit Minnesota.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Philadelphia Eagles Monday, August 23, 6:57 AM EST
News Story: Coach Andy Reid said yesterday that Thomas "woke up [yesterday] with a swollen calf" and was scheduled for an MRI examination. Thomas, who has played in just seven games in the last two seasons because of a fractured foot and a torn triceps tendon, had been one of the few defensive linemen healthy in this training camp.
Simon, on the other hand, has missed significant time with a foot injury and a sore lower back. Reid said last week that the Pro Bowl defensive tackle's back was feeling better, but yesterday the coach said Simon's foot injury is lingering. In addition to Thomas and Simon, the coach provided updates on the conditions of linebackers Ike Reese and Jeremiah Trotter, both of whom were injured in Friday's exhibition game with the Baltimore Ravens. Reese sprained a knee ligament and Trotter damaged rib cartilage. Reid said they both would miss the preseason game against Pittsburgh on Thursday.
Fantasy Analysis: The Eagles defense is very thin at this time due to all the injuries. If these don't get resolved soon, teams will be able to take advantage of them. However, they should be in better position, when the season starts in a couple weeks.

Fantasy Analysis: Zereoue has missed the last few days and Saturday's game due to a leg injury.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- DeLawrence Grant - LB, Oakland Raiders Monday, August 23, 6:49 AM EST
News Story: The Raiders are just halfway through the exhibition schedule but have already lost three linebackers to injury. DeLawrence Grant was the latest to go down when he aggravated an ailing knee during warm-ups Saturday.
Grant, a starting outside linebacker, underwent arthroscopic surgery Sunday, and the fourth-year player is expected to miss a minimum of three weeks.
``He's had some tenderness, and they felt he could go,'' Coach Norv Turner said. ``It's one of those things where you can go out and go four months and not have it happen or it might happen in four days.''
Fantasy Analysis: Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, in his second-season, will fill in for Grant. Like the man he is replacing, Gbaja-Biamila has moved from defensive end to linebacker this season.
Source: Mercury News ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ray Mickens - CB, New York Jets Monday, August 23, 6:48 AM EST
News Story: Jets cornerback Ray Mickens hurt his knee during practice Sunday and underwent an MRI exam to determine the extent of the injury. Coach Herman Edwards said the results would be available Monday. Mickens, going into his ninth season, is a valuable member of the secondary. He started 14 games last season when Donnie Abraham injured his shoulder, grabbing two interceptions and making 75 tackles.
Mickens is the Jets' top nickel back, and Edwards always refers to him as their third starter.
Fantasy Analysis: The injury doesn't appear serious but we should know more later today.
Source: AP ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Jeremy Shockey - TE, New York Giants Monday, August 23, 6:44 AM EST
News Story: One day after straining his hamstring while reaching for a pass in drills, the Pro Bowl tight end was again inactive, standing with his helmet, jersey and pants on throughout the morning practice. He watched again in the afternoon.
It was yet another setback for the beleaguered Shockey, who had just returned to full practice after missing the first few weeks of camp after foot surgery.
"It's frustrating for Jeremy. It's frustrating for us. There's no question," coach Tom Coughlin said. "It's very unfortunate. His foot feels fine.
Fantasy Analysis: Coughlin listed him as "day-by-day" and said it was too early to determine whether Shockey will be back for Friday's preseason game against the Jets.
There is little time left for setbacks, even small ones. Shockey was on schedule in his return and had targeted Friday as his first game action since last Nov. 9. Now it is uncertain if he will see any time at all.
Source: NJ.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kelly Campbell - WR, Minnesota Vikings Monday, August 23, 6:42 AM EST
News Story: Campbell has re-emerged as the No. 4 receiver, moving ahead of Keenan Howry and settling in -- at least temporarily -- behind Moss, Marcus Robinson and Nate Burleson. Certain situations will call for Campbell to play in the three-receiver sets. Robinson's nagging hamstring injury also could mean more playing time for Campbell.
Tice joked that Campbell reclaimed the No. 4 receiver position the moment he reached the end zone on the 83-yard reception from Gus Frerotte.
Fantasy Analysis: Campbell is back as the #4 receiver. He will see 20 to 25 receptions this season.
Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Travis Minor - RB, Miami Dolphins Monday, August 23, 6:39 AM EST
News Story: The first two preseason games have made clear to the Dolphins what most experts predicted when Ricky Williams retired: The team needs help at running back.
Travis Minor has had little opportunity to make plays and has gained a total of 15 yards on 13 carries. Those modest numbers are partially the fault of an offensive line whose next dominating block will be its first dominating block.
But the poor results also are partially Minor's fault, and that's why the team wants to upgrade the position.
''I think Travis would be the first one to tell you that he knows that he can play better,'' coach Dave Wannstedt said Sunday. ``It's different when you're the starter. Travis used to go in, and we would hand him the ball on a sweep or a draw as a change of pace. Now we're pounding that thing up in there with him, and it's a whole different situation.''
Fantasy Analysis: The Dolphins are studying a list of players who will be available off waivers and via trade, with Cleveland's James Jackson leading a list of options that range from the possible to the improbable.
The team has studied running backs now playing for Denver, Cleveland, Minnesota, Oakland, and even Pittsburgh where Verron Haynes and Dante Brown are logjammed behind Duce Staley and Jerome Bettis.
Source: Miami Herald ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Morten Andersen - K, Minnesota Vikings Monday, August 23, 6:38 AM EST
News Story: Andersen will do most of the place-kicking during Kansas City's preseason game against St. Louis tonight. He's worked hard to get in shape for a 23rd consecutive season.
But lurking on the sidelines, hoping to take his job, will be 26-year-old Lawrence Tynes, a Canadian Football League star who had an impressive training camp.
Fantasy Analysis: The competition has been tight. But Tynes, who failed to unseat Andersen in 2001 and 2002, has seemed to hold an edge.

News Story: Second-year running back Tony Hollings reported feeling better Sunday morning after leaving late in the third quarter with a bruised rib on his left side, coach Dom Capers said at his weekly news conference.
Hollings, who managed only nine yards on 14 carries Saturday, will be limited during the team's final two-hour workout before the official end of training camp. Capers is not yet sure on Hollings' availability for Friday's preseason game at Denver.
Fantasy Analysis: Hollings is listed as day to day.
Source: Houston Chronicle ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike McKenzie - CB, Green Bay Packers Monday, August 23, 6:35 AM EST
News Story: At the same time the Packers were pondering their fate at the left cornerback position, there were faint signals being sent that a resolution in the Mike McKenzie holdout could be on the horizon. Two sources indicated that there were signs McKenzie was considering reporting to camp, one of whom said McKenzie recently stopped training and might be preparing to report.
Fantasy Analysis: McKenzie didn't want to go to camp so waits until it is almost over. He is a veteran, who knows the defense and won't be that much behind by missing a few games. Look for him to come to camp shortly.

News Story: With all three weak-side linebackers out with injuries, Mariucci might have to move rookie middle linebacker Teddy Lehman to the outside. Temporarily, at least.
Even with the possibility staring him in the face, however, the Lions coach resisted the idea of moving Lehman from the middle, where he has been practicing throughout training camp, to the weak side, where he played at Oklahoma.
"We're going to talk about where we are with our health as a team and if we're going to add a couple of linebackers to finish up the camp or to compete for a backup spot or a special teams spot," Mariucci said Sunday.
Fantasy Analysis: Once again the Lions are beset with injuries on defense. The Browns ran all over them this past weekend and unless the starters get healthy, it won't get any better during the season.
Source: Detroit Free Press ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Quentin Griffin - RB, Denver Broncos Monday, August 23, 6:26 AM EST
News Story: Griffin continued to play well with the first-team offense, carrying the ball 14 times for 55 yards in the first half. The diminutive Oklahoma product has played well throughout the exhibition season with 145 yards on 29 carries.
Fantasy Analysis: Griffin has a big lead in the competition for the starting job. Look for him to turn into a very special player.
Source: The Daily Camera ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Carson Palmer - QB, Cincinnati Bengals Monday, August 23, 6:24 AM EST
News Story: Palmer has two completions of better than 40 yards in two games. He is averaging 9.4 yards per pass attempt. In 2003, Jon Kitna had a 6.9-yard average per attempt, and the NFL average was 6.6.
Palmer seems to take as much satisfaction in a completion to a running back as he does a catch by a wide receiver 25 yards down field.
"The easiest thing to do is to come and try to fit balls into tight spots and try to make the big play every time," Palmer said. "If I come out and be patient and move the ball down the field, we can be a pretty good offense."
The Bengals averaged 5.1 yards a carry with Palmer in the game in the first half.
Fantasy Analysis: Palmer looked incredible the other night and his stats bear that out. We know he is very young and the season will be different but it is hard to not like what he is doing.

News Story: "The way I look at it, [Ogunleye] was at Miami where he had Jason Taylor to take all the double teams and he was one on one," Haynes said. "Well, if he comes here he can face the double teams and leave me one on one. I know it will make me better and us better as a whole." Haynes has a point, but he will have to beat out Brown to prove it. Coach Lovie Smith left no doubt that Ogunleye would start at left end and Brown will be moved back to the right side to compete with Haynes and maybe Alain Kashama. "Alex Brown has been our best defensive end before 'Wale' came here, so I'd say the inside track was with him," Smith said.
Fantasy Analysis: We believe Alex Brown will win the right side job.
Source: Chicago Tribune ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tutan Reyes - OL, Carolina Panthers Monday, August 23, 6:15 AM EST
News Story: The run of bad luck on the Carolina Panthers offensive line may have continued Sunday afternoon.
Starting left guard Tutan Reyes injured his left ankle in a drill, the team said. However, team trainers spent a lengthy period of time examining Reyes' left knee when he went down before carting him off the field for tests. Results of tests were not available immediately.
Fantasy Analysis: It is not known whether Reyes will be ready for the start of the season or not. It doesn't help your offense when you lose a starting offensive lineman for any period of time.
Source: Charlotte Observer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dorsey Levens - RB, Philadelphia Eagles Monday, August 23, 6:14 AM EST
News Story: Free agent running back Dorsey Levens will return to the Philadelphia Eagles and replace the injured Correll Buckhalter, Levens' agent said Sunday.
"It's an opportunity to play, and it's a situation where he knows the offense and has an opportunity to win a Super Bowl," agent Hadley Engelhard said.
Engelhard said Levens planned to leave for Philadelphia Sunday night to sign a contract.
Fantasy Analysis: Levens likely will back up third-year back Brian Westbrook, who, along with Buckhalter, shared time with veteran Duce Staley last season. Staley signed with Pittsburgh in the offseason.
